PROJECT "SIERRA RS COSWORHT"
This is how the car looked when i got her, without a left headlamp and grill, otherwise the car was complete. This car has been on CarDomain with my Cortina V8 Turbo, but it is coming on so nice that i just had to give it it's own page. The car's bodywork looked ok, taking in mind that it was standing on a farm under a tree for 4 yrs. It needed a hell of a clean-up and a polish or two. This car was called a Sapphire 3.0 GLX in South Africa.
This is what i had in mind of fitting, a 2.0 16 valve Ford FE motor. I build the engine origionally to put in my Cortina, that is why the covers are all red, i turbo charged the engine myself.
This is just a pic to show you the size of the intercooler that i will be running on her.
This is the turbo that i will be running, Garret hybrid , exhaust side is a AR .58 and the compressor side is a AR .50 with a dash 1 shaft and a dash 25 compressor wheel. The manifold was custom build by myself and the wastegate i will be using comes from Audi.
And then came the fitting of the engine, i had to custom build all the mountings, cause these engines did not come in these models here, they ran on frontwheel drive cars here. The gearbox i will be using is a Toyota 21R, it is a lot stronger than the origional Ford box.
Here i fitted the intercooler. As you can see the engine is is standing out high above the radiator panel, but it clears nice when the bonnet is closed :))
I had to do some major wireing changes to accomodate the new aircon compressor and also the new cooling fans. The car will be run on a Domingo fuel management system, i had to add that to the origional wireing lume.
Changed the covers to blue and had the enginebay repainted. Had to remove the origional wiper washer bottle to make space for the intercooler pipes and the dump valve.
This is how the finished engine bay looks like now. I also lowered the compression from 9.0:1 to 8.3:1.
I set the engine limit to 7500rpm. The revs can be taken up to 8000rpm with the solid valve lifters.i also fitted bmw m540 valves very strong. I am currently boosting 0.7 bar(10psi). I tested the true top speed yesterday with a GPS, 252km/h (153mph) revs at 6000rpm. It has not been for a dyno test yet, so the exact figures are not known yet.
had it dyno tested, 200kw (286hp) on the rear wheels, this is with 1 bar (14psi) boost. This boost can only be done with 102.6 octane racing fuel, normal fuel (93 octane)you cannot go over 0.7 bar(10psi). It is real fun to drive and running good and relyable. You can see were the intercooler pipe goes through the body is where the washer bottle used to be.
This is the new manifold i build, with the help of a friend. We used 90 degree steampipe bends, this is the finished thing.
This is how the car looked after the Cosworth kit was fitted.
Rear view, sidesill arrived have to fitted and sprayed.
Side view, would look better once the sidesills are on.
The badges are all brand new , imported from the UK, seeing u never got these models here, except if it was imported.
