The Dakota Chronicles

System Components:

Rockford HU made by DENON
Aura 5 ch amp
(1) Kicker Comp 12" woof
CDT Cambria triaxial 6x9's (rear)
CDT CL6.5 components up front
(CDT rocks!)

I hope that the pics can help other Dakota truck owners in building their systems. Thanks for looking.

swiggdilly's 1997 Dodge Dakota Say good-bye big hunk of OEM HU!!
swiggdilly's 1997 Dodge Dakota My old Kenwood took a dump on me, so I got this one. I love this HU despite the fact that I loath RFosgate. It's made by DENON, so it's top quality. Great Head Unit.
swiggdilly's 1997 Dodge Dakota Factory rear 6.5 hole
swiggdilly's 1997 Dodge Dakota New 6x9 hole - used Dremmel tool and the composite cut off wheels (Thanks Ganko!!)
swiggdilly's 1997 Dodge Dakota CDT 6x9 installed after dampner applied
swiggdilly's 1997 Dodge Dakota CDT CL 6.5" components installed in door pannel. This is not the best pic, but the install is totally clean - no visible holes drilled in the plastic door pannel. The tweet is placed there for several reasons - 1) it's protected and out of the way enough to keep it from being accidentally ripped off 2) it's within 12" of the mid as per CDT's recommendations 3) putting tweets on the A-pillar is dumb
swiggdilly's 1997 Dodge Dakota Mid-woof from back of door pannel - I was fortunate that the Dodge speaker hole is designed like this - it fits perfectly, projects the sound straight into the cabin. swiggdilly's 1997 Dodge Dakota
swiggdilly's 1997 Dodge Dakota FatMat sound dampner applied to the plastic door pannel with the factory padding then glued back on to it with 3M spray adhesive. I had to dampen the plastic - the mid was causing a buzzing noise.
swiggdilly's 1997 Dodge Dakota Door skin before dampner application
swiggdilly's 1997 Dodge Dakota Door - 1/2 way done applying Fatmat - there's 3 layers on the inner surface of the outer door skin, 2 layers on the outside of the inner skin and 2 layers on the innermost door skin - the doors close like a Caddilac now!
swiggdilly's 1997 Dodge Dakota New box assembly

swiggdilly's 1997 Dodge Dakota Seal up those seams!
swiggdilly's 1997 Dodge Dakota Lowes carpet being applied. Used spray adhesive and some liquid nails to hold it down.
swiggdilly's 1997 Dodge Dakota
swiggdilly's 1997 Dodge Dakota Because the box is a bit smaller than Kicker recommends - I stuffed it with pink insulation material - supposedly works much better than poly-fil.

The box ended up sounding great. I am extremely pleased. I much prefer SQ over simplistic boom-boom and this enclosure delivers - there's never a sloppy note. The bottom end response is limited due to the smaller box size, but not enough to bother me. The bass is extremely accurate, tight and controlled.

swiggdilly's 1997 Dodge Dakota all the wiring run
swiggdilly's 1997 Dodge Dakota installed enclosure - fits perfectly into the recessed storage tray.

The 5 ch Aura is installed under the other seat - it's not finalized yet though. I need to clean up all the wiring to the amp and get it mounted better, but for now it's fine. Pics of the amp mount coming soon.

I'm impressed by the power and versatility of the Aura amp. For those of you unfamiliar with Aura - www.aurasound.com

Thanks for looking. The next pages have my old install and some other misc. bullshit. Feel free to tell what you think in the guestbook.

I am looking to do a fglass enclosure in my dak. Your pics helped a lot. Your factory seats will fit over the enclosure right?
