MY FIRST MIATA

This little 1991 MIATA was box stock original when I bought it in Feb. 2000. Like every other vehicle I've owned, I had to add some custom touches to make it different. There's something about the Miata that made it a bit (or a lot) of an "Obsession".

Once I saw the wisdom body kit from VIS Racing I knew this was the look I had to have. It adds a bit of attitude without being overpowering. Streamline top cover (speedster kit) is from Racing Beat but is for new style Miata because of glass window top. Sparco "Speed" racing seats make me feel like I'm wearing the car. Wheels and tires are Diablo Racing 283's 17X7" with Dunlop FM901 205-40/17. Shocks and springs are Tokico with 1" drop. Sway bars are from Jackson Racing. Brainstorm chassis braces were added front and rear. Jackson Racing supercharger, air/liquid cooled intercooler, and boost timing controller back up the go fast looks.

I enter lots of local show and shines and I've hand polished the valve cover, added silicone vacuum and coolant hoses, Ultra ignition wires and Hyper Ground System. Style bar is polished stainless from Brainstorm. Steering wheel is Formuling GT and shift knob is APC. Last year I had to replace the top so I got a Robbins vinyl top with glass window, then had the back window tinted on the way home.

Door panels were covered with Sparco competition fabric to match seats then center dash panel, console, speaker grills and outer air vent balls were painted with blue semi-gloss vinyl paint. Final crowning glory was the Eurolite cool-glow gauge faces, small chrome gauge rings, and gauge panel was painted blue as well (details of this are on page 2). Latest addition is the two gauge pillar mounted Stewart Warner boost and air/fuel gauges with blue LED lighting

Trunk got embroidered mat to match floor mats from Serious Auto, trunk lid mat from Moss Motors, and spare tire liner.

Exhaust is polished stainless muffler from Racing Beat and Brainstorm ceramic 4-1 header with Jackson Racing high flow catalytic converter. Sound system is Pioneer CD deck and although it's pretty basic, sound quality is excellent.

Here are some detail shots starting with before and after shots of gauge cluster. I installed Eurolite cool-glow gauge faces and small gauge rings and painted the faceplate with blue (semi gloss) vinyl paint.
