This is my 1990 Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo. I bought the car back in 2001 from a local dealership. It had 135,000 miles on the engine and the body was in excellent condition, which is hard to find on these cars. Well we took it for a test drive and immediately knew it was too good to pass up.
The "Rocket" as it soon can to be called was brought home that same day. My dad gave it the nickname, "The Rocket" because he said its acceleration was very similar to a rocket. The stock power of the 300zx was sufficient initially, for the time being. I noticed the attention from other drivers almost right away driving the car the first couple weeks. The picture to the left was how the Z looked when we purchased it from the dealership. More pictures of the Z when I bought it can be found on page 2. After a few months of getting a feel for the car and driving around, the power seemed dramatically insufficient. Basically, I wanted this thing to fly.
Upon further research, mostly on NICO Forums and various performance part websites, I realized how much potential the Z really had. So I put the first wave of modifications on the car. Most websites and people I talked with said 400hp can be attained through intake, exhaust, and ECU. So I ordered the JWT Pop-charger intake, HKS Hi-power cat-back exhaust, and JWT ECU. I also opted the get the Turbo XS Type RFL blow off valves, mostly for the amazing seal being beaten to death sound they make. Around the same time I decided to help the heat issue, as the Z was getting very hot during driving. I ordered the Apollo Racing FMIC and Howe Racing Radiator.
For the visuals, I started off with the Veilside CI body kit, and the vented front nose piece. More pictures of the first transformation are on page 6. The white rims that came on the car, which you can see on the picture to the left, have the incorrect offset for the car even with spacers. The front calipers often grind onto the inside of the rim. When I hit the breaks, the car vibrates heavily. The easiest fix for this was to get correct sized rims, which I bought off my mechanic for pretty cheap. These can also be seen on page 6. With the larger turbos and injectors, the ECU was sent back out to Jim Wolf Technology to be reflashed and the Z1 "DOOLZ" Dual Pop-charger intake was ordered for greater airflow. Once that is put on and the ECU comes back, the car will be sent to Agile Automotive in Bel Air, MD to be tuned.
