Battery Installation & Electrical System Upgrades:
I began by unbolting the plastic strap holding the factory battery in place. I then unbolted the negative and positive terminal connectors and removed the factory battery from the vehicle.
The OPTIMA Blue Top was then secured into place. The factory terminal connectors were removed and gold plated ring terminals were installed. I had to lengthen the factory wires due to the new battery's terminal posts being reversed (I soldered and shrink wrapped all of my connections). I then covered the wires in loom tubing and secured them with zip ties.
Next was the electrical system upgrades, or as some call it, the "big three" wires. I started with the alternator post to positive battery terminal upgrade. I used 1 gauge wire and 0 gauge gold plated ring terminals, crimped using a Phoenix Gold impact crimper. I then wrapped the wire in 3/4" loom tubing and zip tied it together.
I found a bolt close to the battery that was connected directly to the vehicle chassis. I unscrewed the bolt and scraped the paint away to expose the bare metal. I cleaned the surface with acetone and used this point for my negative battery terminal to chassis upgrade.
Last was the engine block to negative battery terminal. I found a bolt connected directly to the engine block. Again, I removed the bolt and cleaned the surface with acetone. The wire was then secured into place.
This is the battery after completion. Note how all wires were wrapped with loom tubing to protect them from the extreme heat, and zip tied to prevent them from shifting.
