Story about Tyra
Tyra's story started in 2001 when I returned to the United States and was looking for a replacement for Christina. I found her for sale in a news paper. She was located all the way in eastern connecticut. Not exactly sure where. The next picture shows her in the drive way of the person from who I bought the car.
We didn't get along in the beginning. She was very hard to drive. On top of that she didn't pass inspection because of the exaust. JM corvettes in Glastonbury fixed all that up, including the harsh driving.
She was my daily driver from 2001 untill 2005 when I got Latisha. I learned my lesson with Christina and this time around I bought a second car to drive in the winter.
In 2002 I met some guys that were into drag racing and they helped me to tune the car a little bit. The next picture shows us working on the car.
After three weekends of working on it we took her to the drag strip.
I didn't make many modifications to the car during this period. In 2005 Ford came out with a new model mustang. I couldn't resist and got Latisha and Tyra became the weekend / fun car. In September of 2005 we took her to a car show at Mustangs Unlimited in Manchester.
At that time I parked both cars in the street. After the car show I parked yet again in the street, only to find out the next morning that she got hit in the door. There was a note on the door from the police. The guy that hit it was not insured and was actually chased by the police at the time he hit my car. The damage was not that extensive. I only needed to replace the door. I took of the door, found some rust and decided to take off the vendor. Then there was some more, so I took of some more panels, etc....
Ok fine, FULL RESTAURATION it is then.
We worked all summer to get the entire car stripped and brought her to media blast (American Dry Stripping)
At first I planned to do a full restauration. However I started to do autocross and track days with Latisha. That is a lot of fun. But driving your daily driver on the track is a little risky. I needed a dedicated race car. Why not turn the 65 into a racer? So the plan was born. I didn't put back the interior and I had them put in a roll cage. The end result:
Once I put the big tires under the car I noticed it was rubbing in the rear. In this picture the car has 17x275x45 Hoosiers R6 all around. So I brought it back to Carl to have the rear vendors worked on. He wasn't too thrilled as he didn't like cutting in fresh paint. All in all I think they did an awesome job.
I do autocrosses with cart (www.cartct.com ) The next picture is at one of their events.
I also do track days with them. The next pictures are taken at NJMP.
