My 69 Chevelle SS 396 hardtop that I found behind a body shop in Vernon, Texas in April of 2004. I was allways going to restore it some day, but I have to many projects and something has to go!
I sold my Chevelle to GM proving Grounds in Milford Michigan on Monday, February 25, 2008 without the Motor, Trans, Rear End, Wheels & Tires, Hood, Disk Brakes, Inner Fenders, and the AC parts !!!
One of my friends Jeff works there in the Building where they built the Billet 57 Chevy and Reggie Jackson 69 Camaro and the project coordinator Mike Copland announced to the group that they are doing a new project for Hot Rod Magazine and said “does any one know where there is a 69 Chevelle or Nova?” and He gave them My #, I got the Call and they were on the way to look at it within 1½ hours! When the GM Performance Division Project Leader Mike Copeland Seen it, liked it and we struck a deal he told me I can keep all that stuff since they would scrap all of it anyway. They said that they can pull the parts and make arrangements for me to pick them up or I can pull them! But they needed the car ASAP! so I decided to pull the parts Myself!
This was on a Friday the 22nd and they picked it up on the following Monday, February 25, 2008 around Noon so I had to hustle to get all them parts off, then I hung a 80’s Malibu rear end with some scabby wheels on it!
The only bad thing is that the car will probably not make it back to the public it might be destroyed or scraped at some later date!
Mike Copeland didn’t tell me to much about it except build it to test and performance document all the GM Performance Engines, 3 small blocks, 3 Big blocks, and all of the LS Engines ( including the LSX!) and build and Design a retro fit Kit with all the Brackets and parts to install these engines in the old Mussel Cars. The Chevelle will have a quick Disconnect setup so when they take it to the track the can run 3 engines a day as the car was suppose to be in Hot Rod Magazine September 2008!
It Made the October 2008 Issue on the cover doing a Burn out!!
