Audistang is a 1999 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro (All Wheel Drive) 5 speed 300+ horsepower beast. Factory the car is a 4 cylinder turbocharged engine outputting approximately 150 horsepower. So as you can see the car has made approximately a 100% power gain. I bought the car used in 2002 with the intention of customizing it. I love music and I love driving, so its only natural that one would attempt to build an automobile that was a culmination of both of those technologies. I have also always been a “do it yourselfer”...so it was only natural that I occupy some of my free time building a totally custom setup.
The core of the Audio/Video entertainment system is a homemade touch screen mobile PC that is integrated into the center console. This is tied to an Alpine IVA-C800 6.5” motorized LCD multimedia receiver, which feeds Audiobahn Flame amps and 2x 12” Audiobahn Flame subwoofers pumping out 1000 watts RMS.
The performance tuning is comprised of a modified longitudinal APR stage III setup which normally runs a GT28R turbo. I however opted for the dual ball bearing design of the GT28RS setup. I chose the APR system because it was the closest thing to an out of the box bolt on system (an overstatement). It took quite a bit of tweaking to actually get this system to fit and run right. Overall though the power gains are phenomenal while retaining emissions compatibility.
Custom dash components and gauge pod. Why? Gauge pods are mass produced and generally detract from a vehicles appearance. The reason I constructed my own gauge pods were for a uniquely custom fit, as well as, focal length, and line of sight axis. The gauges are positioned so there is less than a half inch depth change between the two. Meaning you won’t have to refocus to check both gauges. Also the line of sight means the gauges are aimed precisely where my head. SOME PICTURES AND PARAGRAPHS WERE WRITTEN BY PREVIOUS OWNER
