Pontiac_70_81's 1981 Pontiac Trans Am

1981 Turbo Special Edition Trans Am.

This is my Project Car: a 1981 "Bandit Edition" Turbo Trans Am with WS6 performance package. This is a pretty rare and forgotten car, even by Firebird standards. Only 3050 Special Edition Trans Am's with t-tops and the "Infamous" 301 Turbo engine were made in 1981. The 1980 Turbo Trans Am was the first ever production car to come from the factory with Turbocharged V8 engine.

I have every factory piece (except for the radio) of this car. We have all new gaskets, cam and lifters, piston rings, and other rings and bearings. The engine block, pistons, bolts, crank, and flywheel have all been cleaned and prepped for rebuild. All that is left is to buy a rebuild kit for the turbo charger, carburetor, and transmission. Then we will rebuild everything. The entire car will be taken apart and painted. The past owners were planning on doing a frame off restoration, but due to financing problems, were'nt able to finish so they stopped with the engine out. But since it had been sitting for several years we decided to finish the un-building and continue the restoration.

I look forward to the final result. Congratulations on a challenging project. It's always nice to see someone restore one to original condition, for historical reasons, even though I lean towards customizing. Good luck!
