I wanted to get some pics of boat systems on some forums. I figured this would be a place for them to sit.
these are on a friends boat Infinity Kappa 6.5 sides Infinity Reference 6.5 front Infinity outdoor speakers rear Kicker 200.4KX amp Kenwood HU
My dad's boat: Clarion 7" coax front and driver Clarion 6.5" coax rear Alpine CDA-7873 head unit Pair of pyramid 8" subs under captain's seat - ported. Rockford 451S on speakers Jensen on subs Jensen Sirius radio
Good quality speakers, lower quality bass - but for a boat it really rocks.
this was a head unit output test - the setup: single channel across speaker terminals 400Hz:
400Hz CHA (top) on (+), CHB on (-) - battery as reference:
4kHz - same:
the power will always be exactly quadrupled when bridging due to ohms law -> P=V^2/R. ratings are a completely different topic...
the results of bridging were just as i expected... the setup this time consisted of Alpine CDA-9851 Xtant 403A Same scope, and battery as last time. Same Autosound 2000 disk as last time.
in an stereo configuration - Channel 1 (+) & (-) with Channel A lead on (+) and Channel B lead on (-)
in a bridged configuration - Channel 1 (+) and Channel 2 (-) with Channel A lead on (+) and Channel B lead on (-)
to further prove your point that the signal ground is not chassis ground in a modern amplifier i did the simplest thing... measured the resistance between the (-) terminal and chassis ground connection on the amp.
my headunit volume was at 25, the amp input gain at -10dB, the output gain at 75%, and it was a very, very loud (and annoying) tone. But from the scope we can see that only 4 volts was delivered into a 2 ohm load (i changed the speaker from yesterday). That is P=4^2/2 or 8 watts. From an amp rated at 100Wx2 at 2 ohms. course, there was a lot of headroom left on the amp.
this time i decided to find where my head unit clips (without load since my wife and daughter were sleeping)
then i applied a 2.4 ohm resistive "dummy" load. my DC output strip is protected at 15 Amps on the switched side.

nice ride, what do you think about 32000 watts+ from two subs + 64000 watts + total? too much, what could the spl be?

Nice Audio work! I like the subs, amp, speakers, alpine unit, and sat radio, nice! That must have been one of the first sat radio when it came out! can't wait to see more pics of your new car for the audio. Keep me posted! Check out my rides and vote!
