NORTHWIND Racing is a grass-roots rally team located in Washington State. This is our first season and we have competed in 6 events this year. We compete in the North West region of the United States and drive as far as Idaho and British Columbia for events.

Our rally car is a home built 1975 Saab 99 EMS, driven by Quinn Morley. During his novice season, Quinn took 1st in Novice Class and 4th in Group 2 in the Pacific Northwest Rally Championship. Co-driver James Protzeller had the same results in the co-driver's championship. Thanks to James O'Conner for all his help during the construction of this car!

Northwind Racing and our Saab 99 EMS rally car were featured in the SCCA newsletter "Northwest Sports Car News" November Issue. The article is taken directly from my blog entry "Wild West Rally 2009 Recap."

Modifications and Future

The only performance modifications this car has are DelCarbon front rally shocks, Bilstein HD rear shocks, and a 287-302 cam from Delta Camshafts.

Safety modifications include:

  • Full Roll Cage to FIA specifications (Thanks to James O'conner for all his help with this!)
  • OMP Big driver's racing seat and Sparco sprint passenger seat
  • Hood pins, trunk pins (shucks special - I hate these things)
  • First aid kit, spill kit
  • 2 Fire extinguishers

After 6 races this season this car needs a LOT of work this winter to get ready for next year.  Over the next 2 months I'm going to replace the roof, drivers fender, both doors, trunk lid, engine, transmission, all the ball joints, exhaust, fuel injection and repaint the car.  Be sure to visit our homepage for live updates from races, results, pictures and videos after each race.  http://www.northwindracing.com/
