I bought my '78 z in March of 2009. I'd been driving a '79 280zx for a good while, but it'd been slowly rusting out for the last 30 years. There wasn't much I could do to fix it, so I just decided to sell it for parts and buy another one. I've always been a big fan of the 75-78 years, so I found this one in Dallas. Drove down with my dad to get it.

I put a set of 15" SportMax rims on the first week. I'd had them on the '79 but swapped them out. I'm running 215-60-15's on the back and 205-60-15's on the front.

The mechanic who mounted my wheels the first time used lug nuts with the wrong size of threads, so they slowly stripped out on the inside of the nuts when I removed my front wheels a few times to work out on the brakes. A few weeks ago the wheel came off as I was driving, putting this massive dent in my fender. Fortunately that was the only thing damaged.

I'm in the process of shaving the back bumper and smoothing it over, with welding and a little fiberglassing. Discovered a little rust underneath the bumper, but it's just superficial and not a big deal. I installed the A-PEX performance muffler a few weeks ago.

Nice looking car! Sorry to hear about the front wheel coming off and damaging the fender. My 77 had a lot of rust which I have taken care of now. Still trying to decide what to do with the rear bumper. Will look forward to seeing pictures of yours when you get it complete. I also think I'll eliminate the side marker lights. Good luck with your project.

Zweet looking old school Z, she looks like she only needs a little love to get her back in mint condition. Good luck with all your plans for this beauty. Checkout my Fairlady Z32TT Slicktop from Japan, & tell me what you think of her.
