OTHER CARS I'VE OWNED

I've always a thing for Dodge turbos. The first one I had was an 85 Chrysler LeBaron GTS. Sort of orangish-rust color. The thing was slow as hell and no matter what I did, I couldn't seem to fix it. It got smashed to hell when someone crossing an intersection decided to ram into my side pushing me over into someone on the other side of the intersection. Don't ask me what the hell the guy was thinking. The insurance totalled it out and I bought an 85 Omni GLH with a smoky engine for $300 from a friend, swapped engines with the LeBaron before it got towed away, and then ended up wrecking it 2 months later trying to read a map while driving!

Piss on it. By this time I was low on cash and bought another beater. This time an 86 Shelby Charger for $700. Looked Like Hell (vs Goes Like Hell).

I started dumping money into it getting some body parts, randomly picking out Mopar parts from the catalog like bigger fuel injectors, pump, 8mm wires, computer... then went all out and picked up some Formula GP shocks and struts. Holy shit that thing handled like a dream but my teeth shattered from every tiny pebble in the road!! After wising up figuring it was going to cost way too much to make it look decent and trying to make it keep up with now faster compacts of the 90's, I traded it in for a 91 Eagle Talon TSI.

Oh-momma I loved this car. Just stock it would blow away the Chargers and Omnis and keep up with Stangs and Camaros. I had for a good 9 years before I got sick of fixing it from age. The last straw was when the timing belt snapped driving to work one morning and had to tow it all over place. Dealer said the head was bad. Already broke, I sold it for $500. I could've gotten a lot more for parts alone but just wanted it gone. It was time to update. That's when I got the Neon! As much as I love it's looks and rarity, it is just too damned slow for me. I think I will keep the Neon around for shows and buy a 2nd 00-02 Neon with a Magnum engine and add a turbo OR look around for a 97-98 Talon AWD. I miss my Talon sooooo much. :(

Dude, trust me. The Shelby I bought was junk. It was starting to get a lot faster but I admit, I did do things way out of order and it was damn near impossible to find an intercooler/large turbo. This was before the days of the internet boom where you could find everything! It would've been a shitload of money too just to make it look decent. I never dabled in body work till a few years back with the Talon. But if I ever find the GLHS edition, I will definately not pass it up!

talons are all launch(awd) i know ive driven them, but if you look at the 60 foot time compared the mph trap speeds(the wrx is terrible about this) at the quarter mile you can see where their performance is most noticable, put 5 grand into each and see whos in the lead. and i have been wanting a talon tsi for awhile. it just seemed that you spent a lot of time and money on a car and then just gave up when nothing worked correctly. all you really needed to do was get a newer turbo and intake and intercool the sucker to get a buttload more power. thats about $600. if your just buying parts and slapping them on of course its not gonna be any better. and i dont blame you for not wanting to mod your neon if its that rare dont touch it.
