Wow, thats the same damn car as another site. This is kind of an experiment. The quality of the pictures on the other site got terrible, and in the JPG format of the original pics they look great on my computer. Anyway, the old site was mindless and cluttered anyway. If this works out Ill probably leave the old site the way it is and only update this one. Today is April 15, 2003, just so u know when the new site started. Its 11:57, so its almost the 16th, but its close enough. I did a lot to the car today. I put in the knock off dynamat. I suppose it worked out well. Im not really sure if it improved things a whole lot, but I did find the sources of noise that I didnt want when I was installing the stuff. There is a black plastic thing that I can only describe as a window liner, which I know isnt what its really called but the picture will explain what it is, that was vibrating against the back window causing a lot of noise. When I removed it to see how much better it sounded, I came to the conclusion that it is absolutely worthless. I couldnt come up with any logical uses for it, except cosmetic looks. But it wasnt even visible for the most part. Anyway, after removing it, the sound was much better, but not perfect. I then determined that my amp, which is mounted to the back of the new sub box, was also a source of undesired noise. All I did was put a small piece of the sound deadener on the chrome cover to hold it more tightly to the front of the amp (which is more solid) and it stopped making noise. The sound deadener I used sticks great. Its called Fat Mat and is available pretty cheap on eBay. Only complaints are that it didnt come with the sample of dynamat extreme I was expecting, the roller was crappy (broke it pretty quickly, guess Im just too strong, ha), and the detergent crystals were sent in a small plastic bag, within a larger plastic bag (which contained the razor blade, roller, instructions, and business card) and it opened up and the crystals stuck to everything making everything a big mess. I had to wash the roller and brush off everything else. I know this is all probably information you could care less about, but if you order it be sure to ask for the dynamat sample, and Im also rambling on because I am uploading 30 or so new pictures for the site and I would rather upload them all at once, then comment on them, rather than do it all at once. Im only on the ninth picture so I might just go astray now.
For now my plans are to put the sound deadener in the doors, and perhaps the trunk. Its spring break and I was planning on getting a lot of things done with the free time that I have. Of course it rained almost all day yesterday, and it is supposed to rain again tomorrow, but I feel accomplished because I got a lot done today. The most important was the sound deadener, and I also got the back seat back in finally. But of course there is a catch. I lost a screw from the left head rest for the back seat. Ill have to look more closely for it. I also found a grey piece of plastic that might belong somewhere in my car, but I have no clue where. Everything looks like it is in place, and it is a little lighter than the other plastic pieces from my car, I think it might be from my sisters camry. I had been doing a lot of planning for the future of my car. I was going to get a JBL 1200.1 amp up until today, along with a pair of Rockfor Fosgate 12 inch Punch HX2s. I have been corresponding with a few knowledgeable people on www.the12volt.com who were giving me great information as to what I should do. This site is terrific. There are thousands of forums you can learn from, and for dumb people like me you can start your own forum to get some great information. I was told today by one of their members that I would have to run 2 gauge wire and buy an ANL fuse to run the 1200.1 amp to give it the power it needed to perform. The last thing I want to do is spend a lot more money. Buying 20 feet of 2 gauge power wire, plus about 6 more for a ground wire, and then buying an expensive fuse would get fairly costly for me. It would also be a pain in the ass to re route all the wire, especially when it is getting that thick. Right now I think Ill stick with the 4 gauge wire and perhaps get a JBL BP 600.1 . It will push out 600 watts RMS at 2 ohms. Enough to run two of the new Rockford Fosgate HE2s that have the 2 ohm voice coils. Thats what I am looking at now, a lot cheaper than a 1200.1 and two Punch HX2s, but that would probably be a little over board for me anyhow. Now Im on picture 20, getting up there. With the smaller 600.1 I may not need a capacitor which I would if I got the 1200.1, which would set me back roughly 100 dollars more. That would suck. I got the Volvo smogged yesterday. It passed. I had a coupon so it was a little over 20 bucks, much better than 50. I forgot to mention the new sub box I made. It took me a long time, but I think I can feel a little more connected with the car through blood, sweat, and well, there were no tears, but I feel accomplished that I did it all myself and it worked out pretty good. More accomplished than a little rich kid that would have it made for 200 bucks. The damn box weighs a ton. I bet its a good 6 pounds. Then when I put the two 12s in and the amp I almost broke my back. Not really but it was heavier than I expected. I only have a few more pictures to upload, so I will continue to ramble on. I sent the Rockford Fosgate 5.25 inch speakers back to Crutchfield. I dont know if I mentioned this on the other site, but the factory Volvo speakers actually sounded much better. They had a lot more bass, and were about equal with the new speakers when it came to high pitched sound. I would put the factory speakers back in, but thats no fun. I saw that another owner of a 940 put in a 6.5 inch speaker in the doors. Im looking to do the same with maybe an Audiobahn component set. My car is a mutt. Ill have a JBL amp, Blaupunkt 6x9s, Audiobahn 6.5, Rockford Fosgates subs, Sony head unit, and shit, for good measure I should get an MTX capacitor, what do u think? The only brands that match are the Sony head unit with its Sony CD changer. Speaking of the changer, I have no clue where Im going to put it. I was thinking about having it under the sub box, as you will see in a picture, but then I dont think I will be able to get my spare tire out. Right now with the set up how it is, I can just barely get the tire out. If I mount the changer to the bottom of the box there is no way I can get the tire out, but if I mount it to the piece of wood that must be removed to get the spare tire out it may work. Ill have to try that. Now Im really almost done with the uploading. Just cuz Im such a nice person, Ill include the link to the topic I opened up on the12volt. There is a lot of useful information there, you really need to check it out, I cant say enough about it.

About the Audiobahn component set, I found some on eBay for about 70 dollars, and if Im gonna get a 600.1 rather than a 1200.1, and HE2s rather than HX2s, Ill have more money to spend other places. Either way there are still some things I would like to sell. Any one interested in a 2000 Mosh DJ2 bike? Its a 20 freestyle/dirt jump/BMX bike. Built extremely tough, in great condition with many mods. Im just letting you know in case any one is interested or might know someone that is. Sign the guest book askin me about it to contact me. I also need to sell a nitro RC car. Its a Traxxas Nitro Rustler. Has the EZ start and a custom spray-paint paint job courtesy of me. The paint job is sweet tho, from far away. Ok, done uploading, here we go with the good stuff.

Here is an over view of what it looked like from outside with the sound deadener on.

A similar picture but more close up

Once again, an over view of the rear deck.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

Thats a close up of the 6x9 hole. As you can see I used a lot of small pieces. Though they dont look good, it was necessary to do so because there were many curves on the rear deck and I wanted near full coverage.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

Another close up. Some places the deadener is doubled up, even tripled in a few places where it overlapped.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

Here is a picture of the position of the sub box while I was working on the rear deck.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

This is a terrible picture taken by sticking the camera through the 6x9 hole in complete darkness hoping to get the right thing in view. It worked, kinda. You can see the deadener on the top, looks a little like duct tape.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

Once more, a shot of the naked deck.

Here is the passenger side 6x9 in place ready to be screwed in.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

A picture of the connecters being held down by the deadener. It was just basically used as duct tape, but this stuff sticks a hell of a lot better. It should keep them from jumping around and making noise.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

Heres the passenger 6x9 screwed in tightly.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

This is the drivers side 6x9 securely installed.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

Here they are with the Volvo sound deadening kind of crap. Its like low quality carpet pad. I guess its better than nothing, and it will support the top piece of the rear deck.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

Theres the deck with the top piece on. Lookin pretty nice now.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

Theres the Blaupunkt 6x9 speaker grill which will not work. It is too wide to fit between the lump of the center passenger seat belt holder, and another lump approaching the side window.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

Here is a better view of what is above.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

First time in like 2 months that the back seat has been in.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

Here is the window liner that I mentioned earlier. It sits in the back window, doing nothing. I thought it might be for the rear window defroster, but now Im almost sure it isnt.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

Here are the 6x9s with the factory grills on. I will have to modify the grills to get them to fit right. It shouldnt be too tough though.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

Before the box goes in.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

The nut that gets in the way of putting the box in. Thats why I shaved down the box in a particular place, then I didnt carpet it.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

Fits perfectly. I know the colors are off, but they are good enough for me. I tried to get black, but Home Depot ran out, so I went with the grey.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

Left sub,

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

Right sub.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

Maybe where Ill mount the changer.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

I was In PV, so I did a little off roading. Well, not exactly, I only drove off the road like 20 feet, but thats good enough for a 940.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

Sweet fence huh? The whole damn coast is fenced off for dumb asses that fall or jump off the cliffs.

JollyiGreenGiant's 1994 Volvo 900-Series

Hmmmmmmm, light tower.
