The "Slowmatic"
Well, since the '95 is in the ground, dead, I had to find another to take its place. But adult responsibilities called and, since I have a baby now, I had to get something I could fit a car seat in (Ugh...hello Accord). OR I could get an automatic that my wife could drive, leaving me our precious and awesome Mazda3 when I have to take the baby somewhere. WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE? Well, with that brush of automotive boredom, hardtoppery and 4-doorness out of the way, I present my '92 MX-5 Miata *cough* automatic *cough*. It's bone stock and 1.6 liters instead of my previous 1.8, which means around 12-16 less horsepower. Plus I no longer have an intake or exhaust like I did the 1.8 liter. I definitely feel the difference. Nonetheless, it handles and drives just like a Miata should, and that's still amazing. Plus it's small, topless and it's very soul is stitched into the fabric of the road, you know, if it had fabric. My only plans are for a strut tower brace and an intake, that's it. And maybe, one day, I'll hand the keys over to my daughter when she's old enough to drive. Although, if she's anything like me, she'll want a 5 speed instead.
So, while you 5 speed Miata owners are out there having all the fun, remember that there are those who sacrifice every day driving automatic Miatas so that there are enough manuals to go around.
OH WAIT, IT IS A FIVE SPEED!
ADDITIONS: I did the stripes myself and painted the stock wheels flat black, leaving the outer wheel unpainted. It's badgeless and I'm thinking of adding the JDM Eunos Roadster badges like I had on my '95 or leaving it badgeless, who knows. Also, I might add fender stripes if it doesn't look too cluttered or bad.
