The 1948 Town Sedan D24C (rear doors open regularly) was far less produced than the typical 4 door Sedan D24 (rear doors open suicide). This is an extremely rare car. I have seen hundreds of 4 door Sedans, 2 door Sedans and Coupes and have only seen two other Town Sedans. This car has a 231 c.i. (230.2 c.i.) flathead 6 cylinder with a 1bbl ball&carter carb and a Fluid drive transmission (3 speed on the column) that runs. 7.10 x 15 tires. 119 1/2" Wheelbase This car was a "BARN FIND". Seriously, you hear stories of the old car stored in a barn for 30 years then sold for pennies just to get it out of the barn. Well this ride was on craigslist on 7-24-09 and I grabbed it up within minutes of its posting for $500.00. It was stored for 30 years in a barn out in the country. The only issues is that it had a mice family making it there home. Have been trapping mice from it daily. They did not eat it up like I thought, just made a home there in the interior. It is all original with all the pieces, all chrome and stainless trim and everything. The one piece of stainless that was missing from the passenger rear quarter was found in the back seat. It even had all of the original center hub caps and beauty rings. Scott and Sheryl Conley are now restoring it in there Fort Wayne garage. We will place daily progress onto this web site for all to learn from and we will be viewing others pages so we may learn as well.

7-24-09, These 4 pictures are the craigslist ad for the car and the barn where it had sat for 30 years, note all the dust. It was only $500.00 so I bought it without even seeing it in person. Can you blame me?

7-25-09 Finally home in our garage. Only thing missing was the stainless strip on the rear quarter as seen above. I found the piece in the back seat so the car is 100% complete. Also the brake pedal and clutch pedal assembly were removed but they were in the trunk.

7-26-09 Sheryl working on removing paint and rust from trunk lid. We found that sanding was to much work with no results. With trial and error we settled on a large hi-speed grinder with a wire wheel. That thing eats paint and rust and leaves all the metal in perfect condition. Scott started the disassembly of the front end, removed the hood and put car on jack stands.

7-27-09 Trunk lid removed, Sheryl and Scott take turns grinding paint and surface rust. Also more disassembly of front end and chrome pieces. Removed all trunk hardware.

7-28-09 Trunk lid primed and being wet sanded. We tried the color black as the color to paint the car but we are not liking the color and how it shows flaws in the metal. Sheryl starting to disassemble interior trim. We are still flipping a coin on what color to do the exterior and the interior. ANY IDEAS?

7-30-09 Trunk lid with first coat of white, wet sanded. Dings and flaws repaired and ready to wet sand again. Hood off of car and ready for grinder treatment. Need to remove the stainless trim.

7-31-09 Sheryl wire wheel brushing off the interior stainless trim. It has some fake wood laminate crap that is all faded and worn. Disassembled window vents from trim. Wet sand second coat of white paint on trunk lid. Painted interior stainless trim with "Cherry Apple Red". We are trying out red as the interior color but it might not be what we finally decide on. We are going to see how it looks.

8-2-09 Alot done today, removed front bumper, radiator, water pump, thermostat housing, radiator hoses, spark plugs, radiator frame, horns, headlights, headlight wire harness, sheetmetal behind bumper, font inner fenders, hood ornament bracket, sheetmetal in front of radiator, generator, battery bracket, 90% of fender bolts, and the bumper brackets.
