My name is Joe, I'm 17 and very fortunate to have a car like this.  This is the first car that i have bought (my durango was given to me).  It is a 1974 Dodge Dart Soprt.  I quickly fell in love with it.  The first time i heard about this car was from my grandpa.  Since he knows I am a mopar nut, he thought I would like to see it so I went with him and ended up deciding I wanted it.  I wasn't even planning on buying a car but once i looked at it i decided i wanted it.  Later on I found out it was my friends brother who was selling it. So he was honest with me and told me every detail of the car and we took it for a drive.  This was all I needed and I told him I would take it.  We negotiated a deal and it was mine.  I am planning a complete restoration of this car.  I will start off with the body and the frame, getting all of the rust off of it.  I want to paint it the lime green that the challengers used to be painted or a black paint that turns to a dark blue when the light hits it.  Not sure what that type of paint is called but ive heard its called two-tone.  I will get the body, underbody, frame and engine bay painted all the same color.  Then I am moving on to the engine and drivetrain.  Originally planned for my Durango was a 360 magnum block stroked to a 408 and maybe blown is now going into the Dart.  I will keep the tranny thats in it now and put a dana 60 rear in it and drag radials with a bunch of other stuff that hasnt been decided yet.  THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE A DRAG CAR.  It is going to be a sunday driver and show car.  the strip is going to be for fun.  Not any serious competition...don't want to risk losing the car.

She has a 5.2l 318 under the hood with a 727 trans customized with a manual valve body for more consistent shifting. 8 1/4 rear with shortened axles.  Engine has an aftermarket cam...don't know what lift or duration but its not stock, holley carb, i don't know what cfm but its a 2-barrell.  has full length headers and dual flowmasters.  Interior is basically original except for a grant steering wheel and a sunpro tach.

Thanks to whoever chose this as there favorite ride, I really appreciate it!!

Hey my dad said that depending on your timing, valve springs, and valve lash will determine the redline for your motor. But any mopar small block will be able to obtain up to 7500 rpm with no risk of breakage as long as you have good oil pressure and nothing wrong with the motor. The valves will start to float befor then unless you have the valve springs, lash set, and timing set correctly for the redline you want to acheive. I hope that helps with answering your ?. My dad has many years experience in building motors so any ?'s you have I should be able to answer it.

I love the Dart bro 5* from me! My dad has one just like but its more of a parts car. To answer your ? about the shift point of the 318 I have a 84' Fifth ave that I would take to over 6 grand on a daily basis and never had any problems. I even had the valves start floatin on me a time or two! HA HA Anyways I can find out what the recomended redline is if you would like? I dont know it off hand but my dad would, but anyways check out my Plymouth and let me know what you think.

That 318 should fly! I had the '76 Charger brown with white 1/4 top and big azz hub caps. But it also had 360 with a 2 barell carb. Smoked 5.0s all day. Had to chase hubcaps down after though. Nothen says horsepower like shooting off hubcaps at lauch.
