I have new updates on page 2
as of 9/03/2009
This is my baby.... She is a 1988 Fiero gt. She came factory with a 2.8 and getrag 5 spd transmission. She has since felt the heart beat of a SuperCharged 3800 series II, then the raw power of chevrolet's 400 small block (no thanks to V8 Archies piece of shit $3000 kit), and now the screaming sounds that always garuntee a stiffy..... Pontiac/ Opel's 2.0 turbocharged LT3.
I pulled This engine from a 1988 Pontiac Sunbird donor car that I severely miss. I drove the car for a few short months and caught alot of turbo hondas by surprise. They never saw her coming!
By boreing her .40 over, and letting my machinist work his magic with some daewoo parts (GM sold this engine platform to daewoo who refined the motor and uses it to this day) we were able to achieve a 2.2 liter engine. If you want to get specific it's a 2.194 liter. She has a turbo cam compliments of comp cams, and a rock solid head gasket compliments of Commetic head gaskets.
Port matched intake and exhaust ports, and in a few short weeks (these items are in process) she'll have a 59mm fiero 2.8 throttle body which is a huge step up from the stock 43mm. Also in the mail is a turbo from the 89 3.1 turbo McLaren Grand Prix, a direct bolt on worth 25 horsepower without a re-tune. She has an intermediate shaft which gives me the ability to have equal length axles which is major when considering my Getrag has an ENGINEERED PERFORMANCE LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL. She won't launch sideways, only straight.
Below is a picture of my intercooler. It is an aftermarket intended to fit top mount on a Subaru Sti, I will be mounting it at a 45 degree angle between the firewall and cradle beneathe the car. In addition to that nice air flow, there will be 2 six inch cooling fans mounted on the back side of it to draw air through in racing conditions. Both fans will be on a relay controlled switch.
I want my swap to look as factory as possible, so I've built it with as many factory/factory looking parts as I could. Since I was going from 8 cyl to four now, I needed to do something about the gauges. So my idea was to keep the turbo gauges out of the sunbird and replace the factory fiero gauges with them. Below is a pic of the results. This cluster has the oil press/volts guages built into it and the fiero had them as auxilury gauges in the center console. Now that they're all in one place I can use the old auxilury pod as a mounting location for my wideband and ebc read outs. I'll also be installing a tinted plexi-glass shield over those two read-outs so they are not visible unless lit up and in use. Kinda sneaky huh!?

I've read several threads where people had thought about or even attempted this project, however to the best of my knowledge no-one has ever completed it. I imagine that it has something to do with never being able to make a trans work with the engine while utilizing the backasswards fiero shift cables and brackets. Believe me, it is a pain in the ass. I had to combine 4 different getrags from 4 different cars to make a working combination. If you want to know the trick, just get ahold of me, I'm not advertising it. My email is fieroguy1@yahoo.com.

There are ALOT more mods done to the car and motor than I care to list, but all things added together, when the car is tuned she will make 280 wheel horse on 8psi. I totally copied another guys engine blueprints and map so since his turbo 2.0 grand am makes 280 wheel horse, so will mine. Only advantage I have over his motor is and extra .2 litres.

The car is incomplete at the moment (note the missing front bumper), but when she's finished I will post new pics of the completed car that are not in the garage. She's a beautiful machine and I would be glad to answer questions for anyone who is thinking about attempting this swap. I've done all the hard work for you.
P.S. I know the sail panels are missing. I have new ones that were custom made that say turbo GT in exact fiero font. Special thanks to chris cook in indianapolis for making those for me! They'll be on the car soon! His email is Ccook03@comcast.net Here's a pic of his work.
