Disclaimer: Before viewing my page note I have no clue when it comes to showing a car, I have never entered a car show and if I did I wouldnt go overboard to prepare. I wash my car with a bristle brush whenever I take it to the track, mostly to wash brake dust and crap off it from the last outing. I drive the thing to the limits and have a tendency to overheat the motor and brakes. If it blows up it blows up and is just a sign I need to spend some money on a stroker kit.. either way shit happens in racing and if you dont wanted it scratched, smashed, blown up, or destroyed dont take it to the track............
09/24/09... Thought I was going to be able to do a few track days at the end of the year but I am going to be a new Daddy in December. I am putting the brakes on working and drivving my car and concentrating on my wife and my soon to be born daughter. Midlife and a newborn should be interesting...... I may need to see if they sell a rollcage for a minivan...
Hello and welcome to my Roush Mustang's page. Apparently I am in the middle of a midlife crisis and am exhibiting the behavior known as conspicuous consumption which is the acquisition of unusual or expensive items such as motorbikes, boats, clothing, sports cars , jewelry, gadgets, tattoos, piercings, etc.
I purchased my car a little over a year ago. It is a Torch Red 2005 Roush Stage 1. Here is a picture of where we started well of how she looked when I picked her up in Houston.
I loved the way the car looked stock but the car needed a more aggressive hood. I decided to order a Cervini Ram Air Hood and paint some stripes. I figures I needed to come up with a color scheme and stick with it. My accent color choice would be Matte black. I had a rendering created, this is an awesome way to see the direction you want to go before spending big bucks on a paint job. I think the rendering came out really good. If you want a rendering like this check out www.carsbykris.com he does some awesome work.
Here is the after paint pictures it came out really nice and my car even became the star of the paint shops website www.sergiospaint.com. Would be even cooler if they sponsored me since I can always use a free tire or a stripe repaint. This is also the last you will see of the Foose Speedster's some lucky guy here in Dallas picked them up from me cheap. Is always good to be close when I am offing parts as I dont normally really care and give stuff away cheap.. anyone need some used race tires, nitrous system used once... anybody...
Also at this point is where I decided I really wanted to take my car to the track. I dont do drag racing I am into road racing and if I was going to go to the track I would need to remove the foose wheels and drop to 18" rims. I went with Steeda Ultralites they are staggered 9.5" front and 10.5" rear at this point I was running 275/35/18 front and 295/35/18 rears. Also had the wheels powder coated black. The thing I have always tried is sticking to the red and black color scheme.
You know at this point I really think my car looked its best. If I was going to take it to car shows this would have turned a lot of heads but I love racing and used to race dirt bikes and I really wanted to go to the track. My biggest concern was safety so I decided the stock interior would have to go. Now the worst part is the interior I removed was beautiful red suede. Whomever owned my car before must have spent some bucks.Dude lived in Houston so anyone in that area that knows someone that owned a Red Roush with this interior tell him he had good taste and that I said I am sorry for doing his car wrong.....
and after. Nice and comfy while taking corners at 100 mph. These are Sparco Steel seats, they are a great deal only like $300 apiece and save some major weight.
I also added a roll bar from Auto Power as well as Schroth Harness's. They are 4 poin t in the pictures but since I have added a 5th point by drilling a hole through the floor board and adding and eye bolt to a backing plate. Feels good drilling holes in an expensive car, during a midlife you tend not to give a crap. Oh also have to drill holes for the Rollbar...
My next upgrade was to add a Roush Trak Pak wing. If you have ever wondered how many bolts it takes to hold on a Roush wing you would be amazed. I swaer there are 10 holes drilled by the folks at Roush. Now this is great if the stock wing is there, but since I removed it for the Trak Pak wing I had like 8 extra holes. Easy fix, I used black plastic caps and silicone see if you can see the black caps I sure as heck cant. You know at this point the thought entered my mind I should have just bought a Roush Trak Pak but those cars cost $65K and I would feel like an Ass tearing a 1 of 100 car up drilling holes through it etc. I added the hood pins as well since the hood was lifting and I wasnt going to look like a putts when the hood flys off at the track going 110 mph.
My next upgrade was to add some sponsor stickers and my race numbers. At this point I was trying to save some cash as going to track days can cost $200 or more per day. I decided to run autocross for those of you not familiar it is ran in an open lot and you drive around cones that are laid out. It is kind of fun and my number for this year was 77. My car is in Street Modified due to all of my upgrades. Heres my race ready picture, I have her running on Toyo R888s which stick like glue.
So I went to the autocross school with the local SCCA folks and had a great time. It is a lot of fun but the problem with autocross is you dont get much seat time. You spend 5 minutes driving and the rest of the day sitting or working the course. Not my thing so I signed up to do a track day out at Motor Sport Ranch it is near Fort Worth. Now this is what I am talking about...
The only downside has been maintenance. I have been to 5 track days so far and the car is in the shop for brake pad replacement, brake bleeding, overheating issues and other problems. Here is one of my favorite pictures had a great day and on the way home stopped for gas and she wouldnt start. My trunk mount battery cable installation shorted out. I just had a few people tell me the car was badass at the stop light before the gas station. At the top of the world feeling great... Hop in and nothing.. no dash lights, no headlights, no nothing... $300 tow back to my house... I decided to try to jump it from the fuse box and bamm everything came on. Lesson learned... always make sure your battery cables are grounded and check the routing for any sharp edges etc. that could cut into the wire. I also installed a Brail light weight racing battery up front, HAHAHA drilled holes in the fire wall to attach it.. I like drilling holes. This battery work like a charm and only weighs 17 lbs.
Here are some assorted pictures of my interior, engine compartment and trunk. As you can see I have removed the stock steering wheel. Since I have a 5 point Harness there is really no reason to keep an airbag unless I want it to blast me in the face if I go off course. Only part that sucks about pulling your airbag is you have a nice yellow airbag light that stays on all the time. I guess I could go digging through the wiring harness to figure it out but isnt worth the effort. I also like the look with this steering wheel, I would like to get an old 60s style wood wheel for cruising around. But since I dont take my car on the street it doesnt matter. She goes from the garage to the tire shop, mechanic or the track. Running this thing on the street is asking for a ticket, plus my inspection is up and due to my mods it wont pass so I will be running in stealth mode at 3am on my way to do my track days.
Figured I would add a picture of my other favorite toy. This is my 2003 KTM 200SX. Since I was 16 the thing that made me the happiest in life was riding dirtbikes. I owned tons of dirtbikes and used to race Harescrambles, for those that dont know this is where you haul ass through the trees and country side doing these 8 - 10 mile loops. Basically to see who could do the most laps in 2 hours. It was a blast and I would practice 3 days or more a week. Below is my last bike,
And finally here is a section of places a things that I like and would recommend.
If you live in Dallas you need to come out and spend a day at the track. Apex is great they will show you how to do it in a safe environment with instructors and class time.

Web Forums - These are the places I go to hang out and also get a lot of good technical information.

and for those Roush folks out there cant beat FNsweet.

There are very few places I go to buy parts. My favorite places know what they are talking about and have no problems telling me if the parts they sell will work on my car. These folks I count on one hand.
Steeda... They rock... They rock... They Rock... Ok I guess you know I like Steeda.... No sponsorship but if they want to put a sticker on my car I would gladly have them on board...
Stage 3 performance.. They rock and you get a discount if you are an FNSweet member.. Roush specialists.
Brenspeed... My car is tuned by them. I tried a Dyno tune and spent a lot of money but the Brenspeed race tune kicks ass. Plus they will update your tune for free if you buy the part from them.
Jegs - Always have parts I need in stock.
Summit Racing - Like Jegs always have the parts I need in stock.
