This is a 1984 Mercedes-Benz W-126 Big Body 500 SEC with factory AMG suspension package. I bought this car 6 years ago for $1,900. Original sticker on the car was over $73,000. I have dumped about $12,000 into her so far. The car needed alot of cosmetic and detail work, but mechanically was very sound. The gentleman I bought it from really had know idea what he was about to sell. This car came with the AMG suspension package stock from the factory in Germany. I received all of the receipts and original window sticker from the seller. I started the long arduous process of bringing this car back to it's original glory. In the last 6 years, I have installed new front end, Brakes, Shocks, Wheels, Tires, A/C rebuilt, Zebrano wood interior, Sound System, extensive motor work, rear seats redone. I still have a little more to do, but this is my favorite car to drive that I own, especially on the highway. These cars will fly! I have gotten it up to 130 mph and the car feels like it is just starting to get warmed up. Lots of power from the 5 liter V-8 motor, the transmission is silky smooth. 1984 was the first year that mercedes shipped 500 sec's into the U.S. legally, many came pre 84' badged as 380's. AMG was just starting to emerge as the premier aftermarket motorworks company for Mercedes. They had three packages, which included an engine upgrade, suspension upgrade, and bodywork upgrade. The engine upgrade raised the horsepower from 200 to 300 hp. The Suspension system dropped the car 1-2" and beefy springs and shocks make the car feel like it rides on rails, which is unusual as the car is very heavy and solid. This Car has custom 18" wheels I picked out. I wanted something sporty looking, yet classy. I like the way these turned out. Car has heated seats, which is great on cold Oregon mornings, Climate control, Euro Headlight package, Cruise, 8 way memory power seats on both passenger and Driver, power locks, mirrors, windows, brakes, steering, just about every bell and whistle that was available in 1984. I put a little 10" subwoofer in the trunk to beef up the bass just a little. I have just hit the 200,000 mark on the odometer, and the car runs flawless. I can't say enough about the durability of the mechanics of an eighties vintage Mercedes, it is very impressive. Hope you enjoy the pictures, as much as I have enjoyed working on, and driving this beautiful Miami Vice era sports machine.
