PAHornet's 1974 AMC Hornet

1974 AMC Hornet 4 door sedan. Started out life with the little 232 straight 6 and a 904 automatic on the column. Original plans were to install a Jeep 4.0 stroker engine and 5 speed. However things just didn't work out that way and a 350 and TH700r4 found it's way into the engine bay. Surprisingly, the 350 weighs only 40 lbs. more then the 232 it replaced... even less of a difference with an aluminum intake in place. The car was originally designed with a V8 in mind, so the 350 is a great fit. I had to fabricate motor mount plates, similar in design to the S10 truck conversion plates.  Future plans for the car include the installation of a Vortec-headed 350 with a Camaro T5 transmission. Bringing up the rear will be a modified Mustang 8.8 posi, with 3.73 gears and the 5 lug axle conversion. The current rear is an AMC 20 "12 bolt" posi with 3.54 gears and an extra leaf sring ply on each side.

Very cool! To answer your question about my hornet...yes...I've run her down the 1/4 mile. So far a best of 13.5 @ 95 mph. Altitude was around 5000' that day. I'm hoping to sqweek a 12 out of her by the end of the season, but we'll see how that goes.

**LOL** It was an old 3 piece spoiler from a second gen Camaro.. Cut to fit.... and fastened thru the roof with 1/4 20 studs, then glassed in. It needs a final coat and a bit of touch up to be done. Remember Mad Max? :)
