It's not a McLaren F1, but CarDomain does not have a listing for the Manta (even after repeated requests to them to add this car to their listing). This car is based on aspects of the McLaren M8B and Lola T163 race cars, which is why it's listed as a McLaren (closest category I could find). I spent the last 18 years building the BlueOvalZ (sister CarDomain pages), and felt it was time to build a final project. The final project would need to be a mid-engine V8 design, of which a GT40 kit was on the top of the list, along with the McLaren, and a Lola T70. As it happened the gentleman who purchased the BlueOvalZ also had an unfinished Manta Mirage. So a deal was struck that allows me to pretty much scatchbuild the entire mechanical aspect of the Mirage, and then heavily modify the body to match the McLaren M8B. This project started in January, 2009, and is expected to last several years. With that introduction completed, let's see what I got and what I'm doing...The car was recieved in grey primer condition with a VW front suspension and a Corvair rear suspension with a Corvair transaxle mated to a SBC. The front mounted radiator was a copper unit what had the inlet and outlet tubes connected to the frame tubing as a conduit for coolant to and from the engine in back. Note a repaired front nose of the BlueOvalZ prior to repainting and a new splitter.
