7-10-09: this is my mustang,"Shelby" and i bought it in longview, texas. its a 1970 coupe thats white and has very nice meduim blue interior. the paint is faded and has surface rust in areas and it has an automatic trans, but no motor. it has no body rust but does havesmall rust in the floor pans. i bought the car to restore for $1,000 bucks and good news is that it has a good title! this is my project car and i love it! im a chevy guy,so if any of you ford guys wanna give me some advice,my ears are open. 9-17-09: the mustangs been repainted in areas like the engine bay, radiator support, front end,its got new body parts like a hood, valence panel, floor pans, etc. the car has a 388 rear end, front disc, rear drums. im converting them to power brakes. the car is now at TJC automotive where i work on the car.11-15-09: the mustang is now having the floors prepped to be cut and prepped to install new pans. i have removed the fuel, and brake lines, replaced the front rotors, calipers, brake hoses,races/bearings,removed the plain master cylinder and upgraded to a power brake booster and new master cylinder. the brakes are about 50% done,i still need to replace the rear drums with new ones[ive removed the internal brake parts for easy rolling]. the car stilll needs a motor, carpet, insulation[im going to use dynamat],electrical harness, radio, transmission rebuilt, new rims and tires, paint, lights, gas tank[not rusty, just not trusty],mirrors, new chrome, radiator, winsheild wipers and compenets,ac and hvac system, shocks, new suspension parts, etc.so my plans for this car has come down to this: repaint it the light blue like sky blue for the factory 1970 color options, with silver 69 boss reversed c stripes, and other factory/custom accents around the car. i want a 351 but ill probally have to get a 302,it will have hi performance parts like alum. heads, bored out, better pistons,a RADICAL camshaft, roller rockers, and upgraded pushrods, chrome valve covers, water pump, either a single 4 bbl holley 750 or twin 750's,long tube headers, custom x pipe and exhast,ELEANOR style gt 500 rims with spinners, lowering the front either 1 inch or 2 inches,a shift kit in my c6,better gears, or modifying it to newrer sallen t-45 5 speed manual, sub frame connectors, irs out of a newer stang, digital dash, led tailinght, halos in the front, adding fog lights and adding the lower front air dam onto the front valence, tinting the windows dark black or silver, custom sound system,etc.12-16-09: so the mustangs booster and master cylindr are in,the rear brake lines are in,the front dust caps in,the driver floor has been cut out mostly,i still need to hook the pedal up with the booter's pushrod, cut the floors out completely, replace the rear proportioning valve and hose, install the front to rear lines, remove and replace the fron lines, bench bleed the mc,then bleed the master cylinder and lines, replace the rear drums, and all parts. after that the brakes are done.2-14-10: so ive bought all new brake lines[still needing the prop. valve],floor to firewall pans, new seat risers, a gas tank kit with sending unit and mounting hardware,3 assembly books. the floor pans are mostly cut out but need to finished, the brakes need to be finshed up after the new floors are in,gas tank needs to be installed. from there im going to rhino line the interior floors and trunk, have the car painted, then im going to install the new dynomat,carpet,trunk/floor mats, new electrical, upgrade to a manual transmission, and install a new motor with manual tranny, then new eleanor 500's with new rims, etc. in about 5-8 grand later this baby should be on the road =]6-10-10: so ive bought new front fenders, hood trim, some rubber parts, the shelby styled trunk lid and corners, drake scott brake pressure switch, etc. the floors have been welded in,seat risers have been welded in but i still need to do some finish work here and there like custom sub frame connectors and some welding on the bottom of the car. i got a 351m/400 for free outta a 77 ford truck in mississippi,it will need a total rebuild, but hey its FREE! sold my original front clip for $150 bucks to a guy who drove his 70 mach 1 into some trees. the cars getting ready to be prepped for paint. as of today i have $ 4005.09 in the car.6-17-10: so my trunk and corners arrived today from MUSTANG DEPOT from las vegas and i instantly tore it open to find a crap of tape on it...i pulled it off and it chipped the corner and the back side of it...i can honsetly say i spent more time scrubbing goo be gone on it then it took to install. so the corners were easy...little to none sanding was needed, but the trunk lid was another story...its came pre drilled with holes but they were useless so i punched them out and bored them,re threaded them and then installed it on the car. all in all it took 2 hours to do from start to finish in the hot sun. it still needs some sanding done to be finished but its practictly done, opens and closes, locks and un locks just fine. its still needs to be painted and the weather stripping installed for it to fit right but...for now its fine. pics dont do justice....it realllly looks awsome!6-18-10: so today i took the gas tank, lights and bumper off. the car really is clean because the trunk isnt rusted out and the worst of it is a pin hole by the left drain. the next few days ill be working to strip the car down and get it ready to go paint. pretty exciting!6-23-10: so today i dropped the c6 transmission and removed the b & m shifter,i masked the electrics, i removed the front grill trim, headlights, front valence, other front end parts,ect.7-4-10: so ive bought a new gt rear valence with exhuast cutouts, door handles, and door handle pads.8-4-10: so i havent done anything with the car in a month but hope by next month it will be in the paint shop.8-13-10: so i still havent done anything with the car,as people borrowed my money have not paid me back yet,but ill get it soon. added a few pics i havent uploaded yet,in random order.8-27-10: so i still am working on getting the money, but i did go downtown and pick out the color. i picked the 1970 ford MEDIUM BRIGHT BLUE or AKA 1969 ACAPULCO BLUE METALLIC.10-7-10: so the car has been stripped ready for paint, car is scheduled to go to the paint shop next week between tuesday and wednesday. The car is going to have 3 coats of color and 3 coats of clear, wet/block sand, any body filling and work to prep the car and then its paint time. it should be painted by the end of the month. Espinoza paint and body shop is the paint shop im going to, hes painted my jaguar x type, and body work and cant tell it was ever wrecked. great freindly guy whos got 50 years in the same shopand will work with you on your budget,he gets a fair price, you get a show paint job. the car should be painted in a week but no telling so im planning by the end of the month for sure it should be painted. NEXT: off to the muffler shop to weld the floors in from the underneath, under coat it, then my next plan is to rhinoline the floors inside, install dynomat, new carpet and then the seats, and interior re-assembly. once the interior is complete, my next focus will be do i build my 351m/400 or get a 390/428scj? after i get the motor picked out,ill get a 5 or 6 speed standard and do a conversion, fix the electrical, install my new gas tank, rebuild my drive-shaft,rear end, suspension, and 3 inch exhaust including hooker super competion headers,x pipe, magnaflow exhaust, and maybe dual electronic cut-ots, after its streetable, ill go back and add final paint accents, wheels/tires, new chrome parts, accessory parts, etc. in THEORY, my car would be "done", but not "DONE". my ETA of the ca rbeing "done" will be about this time next year or so.10-20-10: the car has been stripped down to bare metal, all glass removed and the car has some sanding and light bodywork to be done, the car will be trailered to the shop 15 miles to the shop next week.10-21-10: So after removing all 5 coats of paint plus primer, the car has a lot more bondo then i had thought and it dates back to the 70's with the old green bondo. it had dents, rust, and holes in it that i didnt even know was hiding under the paint.10-31-10: so the cars stripped and at the paint shop.11-19-10: the car has been primered in etching primer, body work done, a new lower right qaurter patch panel was fabricated, welded and bondo applied on top of it. The car has a lot of work done to the car at this point, the car now is in final prep work to be painted next week. The mustang looks amazing, even in bondo and 2 multi-colored primers!12-7-10: The car is in primer and all ready for paint, the cars sat in the paint booth since Thanksgiving, so the only thing thats holding it back is the paint has to be made. hope by the end of the week. 12-15-10: The mustang has been painted and looks amazing, every penny spent was well worth the paint job.12-17-10: The mustang is now home and looks great, except for where my dad hit the passenger door with a vette. now the door has to be re-painted, its not bad but still..less than an hour at home and its already being ruined...so now im awaiting the rest of the car to be painted and to start the re assembly.12-22-10: today i installed the new door handles, but learned that the aftermarket china/japan stuff does not match up to the original parts, so finally i got smart and used the old latches and rods with the new chrome handle, any ways it looks stock so guess thats good. took the quarter glass windows out for tint and cleaning. the mustang is now starting to be put back together.1-3-11: so i have the rest of the parts now, just too busy to install them as college starts again in the morning. looks great, hope to have more pics of the parts installed on the car.3-2-11: The car now has a NOS windshield being installed friday and i got limo tint on my back glass on the mustang. i got new weatherstripping for the trunk, windows, doors, etc, new rear marker lights, some gaskets, hardware like bolts, clips, screws, etc, so i should be able to get a good bit put back on now that i have most of the things i needed to do so. ill post new pics soon.3-4-11: The glass is now in and the car looks great. have a 2 inch brow on my windshield, and dark black tint on my back glass. the car now just needs to have the side glass done and put back together. im going to post pics so yall shall see the progress as of today.3-18-11: The car now has the hood, fenders, and cowl vent on and has a few more tweaks to have perfect body lines. painted the engine bay gloss black and i now have to put the valences, front lower air spoiler, headlight buckets and grill assembly, trunk lid and extentions, etc. MY GOAL IS TO HAVE THIS CAR "LOT DRIVING" BY CHRISTMAS 2011! now will it happen? who knows, but im pushing for the deadline. remember i want a mostly stock 390/428 BBF and a t-5 with a nice cam, holley 4 barrel, alum. heads, hooker super competion headers, x pipe, dual electronic cutouts, magnaflow exhuast just to list a few of the goodies i hope to hide in the car. ;]3-28-11: The mustang now has front clip on,including valence and spoiler, still have a bit of tweaking to do after i put my motor in like hood and stuff. bought a ton of parts at DALLASMUSTANG.COM and drove to dallas to pick them up. i dropped my bumpers off at economy plating in balch springs, texas. GREAT WORK THEY DO! plus they beat reproduction prices by 40 bucks($160 vs. like 200 ) and its a higher quality chrome plating on the ORIGINAL bumpers. im having my taillight bezels re chromed too. rear end is mocked up and needs to be bolted on.4-17-11: the bumpers look great, in the next couple of days i plan on getting my light bezels and more parts at dm. i have new wheel opening moldings, reverese lights, front blinkers, gaaskets, licence plate brackets, etc.5-2-11: the rear bumper is mounted, rear valence, reverse lights, tailights, the qaurter extentsions, the trunk in the photos is latched but not mounted completely, front parking lights are mounted, the front bumper is still needing to be finished mounting, the wheel well trim is on except for one, some weatherstripping has been mounted, fixed the passenger side fender so the body panels allign up nicely, etc. the car has to date 9 grand in restoration parts, not including my labor. shes looking more and more like a car and a really hot car at that.8-6-11: the mustang now has some more of the bottom end welded up, still have quite a bit more to do, i bought a #602 dark blue carpet kit, and matching trunk carpet kit. the interior carpet came from auto custom carpets, and the only place that sells full 1969-1970 coupe/convertible trunk carpet kits is laurelmountainmustang.com but it too came from acc so my guess is that its a 67-68 kit,as most things from 67-68 seem to fit a 70. i have the LED sequential tail lights, i bought 4 new 15x8 magnum 500's,set of 20 lugs, and 4 center caps from DM for 700 bucks, i wrapped them with p235r60-15's ? i think thats the size, i know its right just not sure if i wrote it right...i got a 67-68 metal rear seat divider to replace the factory burlap/cardboard to help prevent the spreading of fuel in a rear end collision, im still planning on building a 428 with a tremec tko with hooker supercompetion long tubes, x pipe, 3 inch magnaflow exhuast, so not only will it look good, but it will sound a perform good. it will be one amazing car!9-11-11: the mustang has had a roll on truckbed liner applied to the trunk, wheel wells and all over. i tinted the side glass with 35%, and i installed one quarter glass. i have installed some weather stripping and other parts.9-19-11: the trunk has now been finished with the truck bed liner, the dynamat and the gas tank has now been installed. working on the trunk carpet. truck bed lined some of the undersides and remaining fender and wheel wells.11-5-11: the trunk has been completed for the most part. have the custom made trunk carpet in, and the wood floor i made, also have the trunk lid back on. still have things that i must work on to be show ready. worked the floors with my new ball pein hammer, and im correcting some of the things needed to be fixed. i removed the dash, found over a pound of leaves, bee/wasp/mud duaber nests, glass, rocks, sticks, rodent poop, pine needles, dirt, dust, etc JUST IN THE HVAC system. will continue to restore the dash.2-16-12: got the floors done, sealed, truck bed lined(have half the bottom to finish), got some things chromed, got an alpine sound system, some kicker 6x9's for the back dash, bought some vynal from the fabric store, going to buy some cougar arm rests, and im going to make my own grande rear interior quarter panels. going to buy some teak and make the wood dash, door panels, and the center console. ive decided that im going to put in the dakota digital dash, and im thinking maybe a tilt steering wheel.4-3-12 :got the teak wood from EASTTEAK,theyre really a great company to work with. the mustang has all the glass in, just need to do a little bit more tweaking. got the satbelts off at SNAKE-OYL here in tyler, texas... $1,000-$1,200 to completely restore my melted, burnt, and ratty seatbelts. plan to get some more done on it soon. really busy lately, but i try to make time for my baby.5-1-12: i should pick the seatbelts up tomorrow, washed the mustang for the first time ever! bought some more stereo stuff, a few more parts but havent had much time to get much of anything done on it. 5-11-12:the seat belts look GREAT! installed the SMR subframe connectors, painted a little more under the car, removed the steering column, electrical harness, and the pedals. found some rust in the lower cowl vent.i cut that out and plan to patch that up, painted some more of the dash area, bought some more dynamat, installed some more dynamat, and i removed the ORIGINAL headliner which was in amazing shape, but i wanted to paint under there and dynatmat it. found a family of dead mice. been preping it for paint and things so ill keep you posted on that. 8-21-12:The car has the new painless wiring kit and is being installed.10 -15-12: The car has dynamat now on the roof, new headliner waiting to be installed, I have finished the rear section of the wiring and I have added a trunk light and will add a few more interior lights. I have converted the pedals to a standard. I am going to try to finish the electrical soon and get the interior installed as soon as possible. 12-3-2012: My 21st Bday is today. I worked on restoring the vents I mentioned previously. Other than that I am taking the day off. 1-7-2013: HAPPY NEW YEARS! Hopefully all of our resolutions will be met. My resolutions are to get my 1972 corvette on the road again (As of right now I have not touched it since 2010), Sell my 1975 corvette (its sat since 1977) - IT SOLD!, FINISH MY 1970 MUSTANG ONCE AND FOR ALL! I LACK a 390/428CJ FE, but rebuild and build a 428 Cobra Jet, buy a Tremec TKO600 6 speed manual transmission, rebuild my driveshaft, build the suspension up, install the motor/trans, repaint certain things that were damaged during the installation process, buy a console, buy a tilt coulmn, buy a Dakota digital dash, rebuild my AC system, rebuild the dash, install all of the interior and finish making the metal trim for the REAL teak interior panels. So realistically I lack $15,000 on the restoration without getting into any of the little things that I may face in the future. Wish me luck!THINKING OF RE-NAMING THE CAR. ANY SUGGESTIONS!? IF SO POST YOUR NAMES. (HINT: ITS BLUE, A MUSTANG, FROM TEXAS, IT WILL BE A 428 COBRA JET BIG BLOCK, FORMER DRAG CAR, ITS BEEN "DEAD" FOR A LONG TIME....HOPE THIS HELPS AS IM STUMPPED ON A NEW NAME)PRESENT CONDITION:
