Has a rebuilt engine and tranny, it was a mechanics lien and a work in progress. She is extremely fast you would never expect acceleration of this magnitude out of a full size Merc. The 160 M.P.H. Speedometer is highly unusual. If anyone knows anything of these cars any help (info) would be appreciated. I will upload some more pix as soon as avail.

Very interesting car. My guess is an x-state cop put all the goodies from an original state pursuit sedan into that convert. I sure wish you could give me a photo of the door data plate or at least give me the codes next to each item on it. The VIN number would also give me more to work with. I know as a fact, that after 6 mths. /6000 miles of the dealers BS, I fixed my new '68 Merc. up my way. I was into building and pitting USAC grand national stock cars from '66-72 so I knew what to do to make it run and handle. When I got done and thanks to that 2:76 gear, mine topped out at a little over 145 mph and that was with a 390 so IF that car has the police package 428 and been rebuilt, blueprinted and balanced correctly, it could hit that 150+ MPH easily. Those cars, especially mine were a factory freak! The C6, under full throttle, shifted 1 to 2 at 70 mph, 2 to 3 at 105 mph right out of the factory. After 3000 miles and my heavy foot, the Goodyear 2 ply 4 ply tires were bald....I went to the last good Firestone tire made after them. The 4 ply 4 ply nylon Firestone 500 thumpers. On cold AM starts they had flat spots until they warmed up so they were called "thumpers". Next year, or late '69, Firestone came out with the infamous 721 radial that ended their use by NASCAR and USAC and almost put them out of the tire business. Send me more details on that car because I got a California made '68 Monterey Fastback that came with a 428 Cobra Jet motor in it from the factory. I think they did this when normal 428 were not available just to build the car and fill the order. Understand? Keep smilin', John

Hey there John, Sorry I forgot to put it is a Convertible on the system. So I really do not know what the 160 Speedo means unless the troopers drove converts?? It is in the paint shop the car was stripped and dents taken out front drivers fender was shot got another and a section of the rear quarter. It is looking real good. Car rides great corners flat so it must be some exotic something or another. I have a friend whom is a Texas State trooper he clocked me at 156. Any info would be appreciated.

Hello there, I'm an old 1968 full size Mercury guy from day one. Just from what you are saying about performance and the 160 mph speedo, my guess, if you are close to Wisconsin, you got your hands on an old Wisconsin State Police car. Is it a 4 dr sedan? Can you post a few more pictures including a close up of the cars data plate on the drivers door? I can tell you more once I see it. FYI John
