Tranny Write up and PICS

First.
Go and buy your favorite ATF oil. I used Mobil 1 Synthetic. Get around 12 quarts ($4.99 each) to do the full flush.

Then you will need to buy these parts
Here's what you need: I bought them from Dave B. 1-888-254-6060

==* Tranny Pan Gasket 31397-80X01 (required if dropping the pan)$13.61

==* 19mm Tranny Drain Plug 31377-31X06 (optional, but might as well) I Didn't

This is the bolt you have to remove to drain the oil out. Also will need this to take the bolt out..

==* (21) Tranny Pan Bolts 31377-32X02 (required if dropping the pan) I re-use them, I call my dealer, they wanted $1.25 each.... no way Jose....

==* Tranny "Screen" inside transmission (some think it is a filter, but it is not. Changing isn't necessary, but while you have the pan off, you might as well consider replacing) 31728-80X04
I didn't replace the screen, I just took it off and cleaned it real good with brake parts cleaner....

If you want to install a tranny cooler now it is the right time to do it. I didn't.

Here we go......!!!!!
2. Jack up the front of the car and remove the drivers side tire. Be safe when doing this. I used two jack stands and the car jack just to be safe under it.

Remove the bolt "above" with a 19mm wrench. I used this to catch the oil it was dirty... way to dirty.... Please don't pollute, dispose of the oil in a safe way take it to your autopart.. they will do it for you...

After the oil drained out, (like 3 hours wait), Remove all 21 bolts. You will need a Flat screwdriver to actually remove the pan. Hold the pan as firmly as you can, there still oil inside the pan. Be careful, you don't want oil in your face...... When you drop the pan your Tranny will look like this....

Clean your oil pan, the magnets and remove the old gasket. You need to clean the screen. Pan and Screen Pic...

In this pic the screen was removed....

Reinstall the screen,Reinstall the oil pan with the new gasket. DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN THE SCREWS to the tranny.....I'm talking about the screen ones and the (21) tranny. You are almost done.
Go back and remove all the oil and stuff around your car.
You are almost ready to have a "BEER"

Lontar1's 2001 Nissan Maxima

After a few Beers you are ready to poor the new oil back to the tranny. Remember.. You took out like 4 to 5 quarts.. you need to put the same amount back. After you added 4 to 5 quartsyou are ready to disconect the hose the brings the cold oil back into the tranny. In the picture below is the HOSE at the TOP (Red Arrow) , NOT THE ONE WITH THE BOLT. Remove the clamp with pliers and pull the hose up.

Lontar1's 2001 Nissan Maxima

You can do this by yourself, but I asked my Dad (My wife was pissed so I called him to help me with it). Put the hose into a plastic container and ask someone to turn on the car. This will make the pump to move the new oil inside the Tranny to push the old one in the Converter, Do this a few times changing gears and stop. Refill the tranny to the correct level. Do this process a few times until the oil changes from Burnt red to PINK. Once you see the OIL turn to PINK, Stop and put back the HOSE, clamp it back.....

Put the car back together and enjoy your new more reponsive tranny. After you are done park the car and re-tight the (21) bolts and check for leaks........

Have fun..........................and
have a few

Kiss your wife If you are married.... and tell her you love her... I'm my case it didn't work.. so I'm in the Dog house............
