GrahamAU's 2003 Mitsubishi Magna

June 30, 2009, I've just purchased this 2003 (July 17th, 2003) Mitsubishi Magna.

It's a TJ Sports AWD model.

Engine is Mitsubishi's 3.5L 6G74.

Power = 159kW (213hp)
Torque = 318Nm (235 ft lb)

AWD components are borrowed from the Lancer Evolution VI + VII series of vehicles.

Rear + centre diffs are LSD, front is open. Wet weather traction is superb.

Gearbox is 5 speed triptronic auto.

mods and more pics to come in the future. Like this one: :)

Update: August 2009:

Wet weather handling is good - there's enough power to break traction if you are silly, but as long as you can keep it pointed in the right direction, the diffs shuffle the power around until it grips up and just goes.  Straight line acceleration in the wet is vastly quicker than a similar powered 2WD vehicle.

Overall handling isn't so great - the factory 215/60/16 tyres are just too big a profile for sporty handling and the overall suspension configuration is just too soft.

I have a set of 17" wheels to go on soon, PLUS I've added a strut tower brace at the front. This helps to a surprising degree - initial turn in is much more responsive and tyre roll can now be felt whereas before the suspension would slop over first.

Rear heavy duty sway bar is on the list of things to do too.

Thanks, yep I'm on the Aussie Magna Club and if you go to any Sydney events, you might see me there one day.Future plans - hehe oh yeah.For handling, I want to put a 20 or 22mm adjustable rear sway bar on to really fine tune the rear end grip, plus some lower and stiffer progressive rate springs on the front. If needed I'll replace the shocks with Koni Adjustables.Then I've got some 17" rims which I'll put on for everyday driving and the stock 16" rims will get some super narrow tyres and I'll stiffen that rear bar up and enter a burnout competition! :)
