The C-Code 2V 289ci V8 was the standard V8 offering over the hearty Straight Six on the order sheet in 1965/66. Running a stock Autolite 2100 carburetor, horespower is rated at 200hp/285 lbs of torque for a "factory fresh" engine, but that number can be easily bumped up to roughly 225hp by installing the "A-Code" four barrel intake and an Autolite 4100 carburetor. It's tempting, but it runs so well, I don't even want to mess with it.
This smooth running engine is a breath of fresh air for me because I usually have to take a lot of time to tune a car after I buy it, but whoever set this car up after the restoration did a pretty good job. Since it is sporting a tag with a "C8" prefix, the carburetor must be a 1967/68 2100. Other tags on the drivetrain match the build year for this car, but it is hard to tell if the engine and transmission are original or not. It was obviously rebuilt
Any three speed transmission is a pain in the butt to me since I do a lot of highway driving. But, the installed C4 shifts well and is solid. I may consider a change in the future, but it can wait for now. More details on that will be on the "Future Plans" page.
Having a solid drivetrain makes driving the car so much more fun and helps calm your nerves about being broken down somewhere!
