I ordered Big Pink from the factory in 1969. I've heard only 7,400 were made. I ordered it hot pink. It was beautiful. The color is still in the trunk and under the hood. I took it to California in 1970. It lived there until 1976 when my father got custody while I had to move to Hawaii and I needed the plane fare He brought it back home to Minnesota and repainted it a lighter pink and replaced the top. He only drove it in parades. It doesn't like going 3 miles an hour. In 1984 the title was tranferred back to me and my husband from my father. He rarely drove it and wouldn't let me so it was stored. It's been moved around from storage place to storage place and maybe driven 20 miles a year since then. My husband died last year and it's out of storage now! He had quite a bit done on the motor (390) and exhaust system in 2003 but there is a dent in the hood. It has never been in an accident so it must have happened while stored. Other than that it looks pretty nice. I found out the fuel pump and brakes are shot from sitting so long. It needs a carb kit too. I replaced the fuel pump but think I'm over my head on the brake and carb issues.
I would love to see it restored to it's original color. I was told it's a nice solid car with just superficial rust and a great frame.
I have now decided to sell it. "Good" is listed in the Gold book at $8250 and "Fair" is around $4000. I don't know how to price it. According to the criteria it seems to be between fair and good. Any help would be appreciated. I'm pretty sure it was the only hot pink XL ordered. When I opened the trunk I found 5 bias tires in it all in good condition. Extra pair of shoes!
I remember the original pinstriping on the side as 2 lines with a beautiful scroll on the end. Does anyone have a picture of the original on an XL? I can't find it online nor can I find an XL convertible listed. It's driving me crazy. It was ordered from the Wayne MI plant with a custom paint job.
Update: It's back in storage for the winter.
