Stainless Steel Braided Fuel Lines:
DeLoreans use an early form of fuel injection called Bosch K-Jetronic which is a constant injection system. Most cars today use EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) compared to this older style of mechanical fuel injection.
One of the most noticeable features of the DeLorean engine is that there are fuel lines/hoses/wiring running all over the place. The fuel lines in particular are noticable and run from the fuel distributor just above the air box to each fuel injector in the air intake manifold.
The fuel lines are a thermoplastic material that with age and thermal stress eventually break down and crack over time. The thin plastic lines are protected by a bulky rubber coating which can hide small leaks. Banjo fittings are used to connect each line with hollow bolts.
After discovering fuel leaking on the distributor I decided it was time for an upgrade. Thanks to John Hervey at Special T Auto a stainless braided kit is available and looks very close to stock with the stainless braid covered with teflon coating.
The teardown began by taking lots of pictures to document the original hose routing. After that the easy to access lines started coming off (and had to be returned to John for a core charge along with the fittings.)
Once all the lines were removed the fuel distributor was cleaned up and painted.
MUCH MORE TO COME!
