My '63 Laurentian was one of the last Laurentians imported into Australia in the "Knocked Down" kit. from 1964 onward the Parisienne replaced the Laurentian in the showrooms. The Luarentian was assembled here in Australia by the GM Holden division, and my father purchased it new from the Muirs Holden showroom at Ashfield, Sydney, in February 1964. It has been in the family ever since and is regularly used at the Gold Coast Antique Auto Club's regular outings. The vehicle is also displayed at various car displays and shows including the annual Coolangatta Wintersun in June and the RACQ Motorfest in Brisbane.
The vehicle is basically original apart from the American Racing alloy wheels, although I still have the original steel rims and hubcaps that came with the car. It is powered by the original 283c.i. 2 bbl V8 which is mated to the original 2 speed Powerglide transmission. The car still drives like it came out of the factory yesterday, although the handling is much improved by the fitting of the much larger wheels and tyres. They do "fill-out" the guards more and make the car look great! The interior is pretty much original, except for the after-market air-con unit and a CD player.
