THE DAIHATSU CHARADE G100 PROJECT
Dubbed the "Charred-ade" due to the 'burned out' condition of the car when i acquired it.
<< LAST UPDATE: July 15, 2009 >>
It looked pretty good when I first saw it. But the drive home was harrowing to say the least. Suspension wobbling all over the place at 50km/h (it was so damn funny because i was trying to pass a bicyclist on a downhill stretch and the front was shaking so much, i thought the car would fall apart!), and the engine wouldn't idle when the a/c was on.
At least the body is intact.
I didn't notice but there were some slight imperfections in the last repair job to the car, those will be fixed once the mechanical work gets done. Guess those 14" wheels from a Toyota Vios did a good job of distracting me. those wheels are up for sale... 15"ers will be mounted once suspension work is to be done.
First thing one sees when you look at the insides... shitty seats. foam all ripped to shreds, these two are going into the scrap pile. I think the sheet-covers will make good covers for cars being serviced to keep the grime off the fabric.
Whee, an el cheapo wood wheel and shift knob. Everything in this car was wonky. I was truly getting close to wits end everytime i looked at it. That steering column truly clunked wildly, and the car wouldn't do proper left turns either... i think i had like the turning radius of a 10 wheeler truck!
Ahh, the rock... that's my handbrake. Seems the handbrake lever's mounting bolts ripped right through the flooring. that's gonna have to be re-enforced.
The CB23 engine. as i got it. Compression is good on this mill, but even after a carb overhaul, the car had trouble keeping an idle and had some smoke coming out of the tailpipe. We traced the problem to a faulty valve seal on the #3 piston. I didn't bother fixing it, as the engine has already been taken down from the car. Oh, and the tranny oil seal leaks something fierce! pretty damn stinky after driving it.
The engine and tranny's for sale by the way...
