I'm in the process of swapping the old 7-1/4" rear for an 8-3/4" rear with a sure grip & 3.23 gears. The 318 has an Edelbrock Performer, a Holley 600, headers, a mild cam, 10.5:1 pistons, & I had the lower end balanced. The best it ran with the old rear with the 2.76 gears was a 15.20 with the headers opened up. I think the better gears should get it into the 14's.
