This is a budget build that I am planning to eventually put into the 11's on motor, with the kicker that I can do it before I hit the $5000 mark. So far I have spent 2500 EVEN, so I am halfway there.

The guy I bought it off of had built it up with the intention of a drag car but unfortunately ran out of time and money to put into the rest of the build, so sold it without brakes and minor suspension problems. So i bought it up over craigslist for $2500.

It is equipped with the following-

A ford 385 series 460 from a 1973 Cougar

.060 overbore, bringing the engine to 472 CID

Sportsman flat top pistons Molly rings

Mallory Double Roller Timing Chain 4’ advanced

Super Stock Industries SSI Cam: Duration In: 276 Ex: 286 Lift: 509

 Flowmaster mufflers

C-6 Transmission with shift kit

Edelbrock Victor 400 Intake

Holley 750 Double Pumper Carb

Heavier Front springs to bear engine weight

8.8" rearend from 88' Mustang GT with posi-trac

3.27 rear gears

Soon to be put on are Lakewood upper control arms and Lakewood traction bars, along with rebound adjustable Strange rear shocks and front struts.

As of right now, it has the restrictive D3VE A2A heads. They were introduced in 1973 as a result of new smog standards that the EPA had enacted, dramatically affecting Fords 385 series engines. With some minor porting I think these can see some mid 300 CFM flow rates which should do the car some justice. I have seen a lot of other heads available for the 429/460 engines over ebay that were from the late 60's engines and trust me- they can make an engine of that size work.

I would imagine that the engine is putting out probably close to 350 Horsepower as just a guess due to the restriction presented by the heads, but with a 3 angle valve job and some gasket matching I imagine it will make a noticeable difference. Big picture though, i would like to get something along the lines of the better flowing C9VE heads  and the do the real porting on those, or maybe some cheap aluminum procomp heads and polish them up. I think those are whats going to get the motor nearing the 450-500 mark with the setup already there. We will see!
