Trooper of 19 years- Project update:
It was not easy, but I got the 5.7l to fit. I had to cut the front clip, move the radiator forward, and use a Jeep laredo radiator so the Chevy small block would fit. I added four electric fans and still had to fabricate a hood scoop as well as installed a 2800 CFM fan to keep it running cool. I added all new electrical parts including new injectors, headers, duel exhaust, in additon to taking out the 700R4 and installing a 4L60E with the new computer. The wire harness took two weeks to figure out and was a pain in the rear. I installed new BFG K2 mudders (33's). What a difference on the freeway! The weight of the Trooper is now just under 5000 LBS. Next up will be the small block 383 with around 425 HP. For that I need to build up the front and rear dif's, stiffen up the frame, install new suspension and up grade the drive lines(but that will be a ways out). The duel thrush exhaust with pipes going out the back gives it that old school rat rod sound. It's loud as hell .
We just moved to a new area and will upload fresh pics soon.
