C-Doggg82's 1982 Cadillac EldoradoI was rolling through the country heading to a friends party and I saw this Dogg sitting in a field..I went up to the house and talked to this elderly lady for about an hour and she sold it to me for 200 bucks....Threw a battery on it and changed the fluids and it cranked right up....I plan on making this a hot ride for the summer but I have two questions...The first is after a lot of research I see the HT 4100 engine is pretty much garbage. Can anyone tell me of a good engine to swap in that will work with the existing transmission, and the second question is I have seen some clean 22inch rims on some eldogs of the same year. Does it require a lift? I plan on painting it house of kolor burgany and redoing the interier. If anyone has done a project like this, any advice would be appreciated!

Also, the transmission is based on the TH200-4R and can be upgraded with racing parts for that tranny. The intake can be modified for a bigger throttle body. I shoehorned a 472 into my 82 Eldorado. But even though the 472/500 big block engines are only 35 lbs. heavier than a 350 Chevy, I needed to change my torsion bars and rear springs because they are a lot heavier than the ultra light weight 4.9s. There is a lot of work to put a big block Caddy in the car, but it was mostly bolt in with no cutting required. The transmission will not handle much hotrodding if you put in a 472 or 500, but they look cool under the hood. I have pictures of mine on my profile.

The first of the 4100s were 125 Horse power bad because they were rushed into production. The bugs were worked out on the last ones. In 1988 the engine was enlarged to 4.5 with 155 HP (180 HP in 1990). In 1991 it became a 4.9 with 200 horsepower at the wheels and it is a direct bolt in. You might need to keep the intake manifold if you cant find a forward mounted 4.9 and also so you can run the stock computer and fuel injection but you might want to use bigger injectors. If the 4.5 or 4.9 has a throttle body, use that one if possible. It requires no suspension mods because the 4.1 4.9 engines are about the same weight which is only 20 lbs. more than the 3800 V6.
