I rescued this car from an elderly guy, it had been sitting underneath a spruce tree, collecting pine needles and tree sap. I know it is only the V6, but there's potential for that little engine, which I hope to exploit.

Maintenance Blog

March 2009

Mon 23 - Currently restoring the car to perfect condition. More serious performance mods will be added later.

Having clutch issues right now, and will be buying a new clutch kit. Unfortunately, I don't have the money to spend on a performance kit, and will have to buy a standard kit.

Wed 25 - I have decided when I've got the money, I am purchasing an underdrive pulley, a/c delete pulley, 1.6 ratio rocker arms, and PaceSetter headers. Hopefully see 10+hp from that. Cat-back exhaust will be next, to compliment the headers. Also, going to try and get the Z28 rims, and maybe the side skirts. All of this will take place in the next month or two. I'll keep posts and pictures of my progress. Enjoy!

Thur 26 - I started to remove the transmission to put in the new clutch kit. Had to take out the center console just to get to the bolts holding in the shifter. Only prepping the tranny to be removed tomorrow, no one else is here to assist me. Will have pictures posted later tonight.

Sat 28 - Well, I've hit a snag. On the back of the engine where the camshaft is, there's no freeze plug, but a cover plate and gasket. The gasket is leaking and no one has a single one, just one in the Fel-Pro full gasket set, which is $100. I now have to put off replacing the transmission until next week because I have to go to the dealer to get that specific gasket. What rotten luck.

April 2009

Wed 1 - Finally got the gasket, but won't be able to start putting the car back together tomorrow. So that means the car won't be done until this weekend. Hopefully have my Volkswagen sold soon so I can start putting in some performance mods in the Camaro.

Fri 3 - The car lives! Went on a short 10 mile drive to make sure the transmission/clutch holds up. Sure enough, it shifts smoothly with a little extra power at the wheels.

Sat 4 - Made a farther trip of 30 miles today, and still running smoothly. Idles a little off, will have to check the IAC.

Thur 9 - Been trying to negotiate the sale of my 61 VW Beetle. Possibly trading for another 3rd Gen Camaro. Or selling to another person. Depending on what happens, the V6 will either get new parts, or I have my own car to drive and my fiance gets the V6. Here are some pictures I just took of the car all clean after a long dirty winter. The door was replaced because of those horrible hinges GM made. Note: Engine is dirty, I know, but will clean it soon.

Fri 17 - Hopefully selling my VW this weekend. With that money, I'll be upgrading the Camaro. Buying PaceSetter headers, Magnaflow cat, heated oxygen sensor, and a head gasket set to fix the leaks. Will also clean up the engine, hopefully that will add a horse or two.

Thur 23 - Well the VW will be gone this Saturday. Not sure if I am going to be able to upgrade the Camaro seeing how it's our only vehicle. I did however, found a 1992 Camaro RS (LO3) for only $700 that I will be looking at tomorrow. We need another vehicle before we put one in the garage again. It was too stressful relying on my parents for an extra vehicle since they both work, and my brother uses one for school.

May 2009

Mon 4 - Did the second oil change today. Probably should have done it sooner, the oil was pretty dirty. Amazing how a simple oil change can affect the car. Anywho, I've done some price comparison, and have decided a V8 swap would be the easiest and cheapest. Already have the motor. Still deciding though. Hard to get rid of something with 25+ mpg and go down to 12+ mpg. Might just save up and buy another third/fourth gen Camaro/Firebird with a V8, like I wanted to all along. We'll see what happens when I get a job.

Mon 25 - So I've been away awhile. Well the engine needs work, mostly just gaskets replaced, and some internals. I'm keeping the 2.8 and just buying another car with a V8 in the future, make this current car my DD. So much I need to do, and so little money to spend. Going to fix the top end for now, then replace the bottom end with 3.1 crank/pistons and stroke/bore it as much as possible.
