PG. 9)

..and now for some performance mods...I have installed a k&n air filter, fully ported and polished the whole intake, ported and polish the throttle body, port and polish the intake ports, and the exhaust ports in the heads.I still have to remove the heads, and polish the combustion chambers(waiting for the kit to come in from snap on)...

these pics are of my dynomax cat-back exhaust system, and the original exhaust that I cut off of the car...

...and since we are on the exhaust system, check out these pics of the exhaust manifolds that I ported out,I didnt take too much out, just smoothed out the curves ,and opened up the collectors...Ive heard that these manifolds already flow good, but I think that a little refinement was in order!

here are some pics of the collectors that I opened up...,I also smoothed out the ends of the runners

here are some pics of when I had to replace the valve cover gaskets, the plug well on the left was oil fouled, due to the plug well seals going bad...and the outer valve cover gaskets where leaking as well...and the one on the right was cleaned, and a new ngk laser iradium spark plug installed

here are a couple of pics of the rear valve cover removed, and a pic of the front cover back on and the taylor 8mm spark plug wires installed...

here in these pics, the valve covers where cleaned, the new gaskets installed, plugs in wells, wirer routed, and the intake is ready to be reinstalled...the pic on the right is one old autolite, and one new ngk!

and here is a pic of everything back togather, and ready to go to work!...
and then sadly...
The day after the valve cover gaskets/plugs/and plug wires, the engine developed a rod knock.
Before then the oil light was coming on(flickering),but very eratticly, and never when at idle, only when driving at all different rpm ranges, this seemed funny to me,so I thought it was just an oil sender going bad,or a loose connection, and would have investigated it on the next weekend after the valve cover gaskets/plugs/and plug wires...oh well thats what I get for waiting!
...Two weeks later I score a sweet deal...I buy (2) 3.2 l engines(1 80k,and the other 120k),(2) atx trans,4 doors(complete),rear bumper cover,motor ,and trans mounts,head lights,tail lights,and a ton of various electronics,and pieces...all for 250.00...SWEET!!!

...here is the complete motor, trans, rack,y pipe, and front cradle and one front strut and knuckle...let the tear down begin!!!

here the 120k motor hangs in the ballance...and onthe left I am ready to mount the motor on the motor stand

me in january, with my cold weather gear on ,cleaning the motor during the disassembly, and prep for mounting it on the stand

here are some pics of the engine mounted on the stand, with the oil pan removed...I wanted to check the bearings, since that was the snake that bit me on the original motor!,and its good that I did bc they need to be replaced...

here is a pic of the timming cover off, exposing the water pump, timming cogs, timming belt, and the timming belt tensioner

here are some pics of the stock ports on the head...the one on the left is the intake port, and the one on the right is the exhaust port...let the porting begin!!!

here are some pics of the porting in progress...on the left the porting is almost done, and on the right the porting is finnished, note the size difference!I have some close up pics to follow...

here are some pics of the port matching, and polishing first stage done(port match)...the pic on the left is the intake port, and the pic on the right is the exhaust port

here are some pics of stage 2 complete(polish)...the pic on the left is the intake port, and the pic on the right is the exhaust port

and here is a pic of the whole bank of exhaust ports, finnished

and just for a close up size comparison, here are the before and after pics side by side,on the intake pic note the dirt ring around the opening of the port, thats where I had to match port it out to,and on the exhaust too

here are some pics after I painted the block, and I cleaned up the rear of the engine, and the various hoses involved

some more pics of the painted block from a couple of different angles...

another pic of the engine on the stand(after porting with the intake ports taped off)

and now I am going to SHOw you what is to come...

here are some pics of the valve covers that will go onto the finnished motor
(prepped,painted,cut,and compounded)

here are a couple of before and after pics of the front plenum where it conects to the rear plenum...

here are some pics of the porting and polishing I did on the intake manifold...these pics are of the ports on the front plenumnote the size increase!

these pics are of the fron plenum,at the connector end, note the chamfered runner ports, man i cant wait to put this thing togather!!!

more pics of the runner ports, again note the chamfer!,this should create a venturi affect.man I cant wait!

here are some pics of the rear plenum, before the port and polish, and after

here is the before and after where the rear plenum, meets the front plenum

here are some pics of where the runners meet the plenum, again port match, chamfer, and polish

a before ,and after pic of where the plenum meets the conector tube

here is a pic of the stock rear plenum, and my custom plenum(painted, cleared, cut,&compounded),the ford sign was not easy to do!

here are some close ups of the rear plenum, and the ford sign!it came out looking sweet!

the only reason that I didnt post these pics when I posted the rest of the intake pics,is that during painting, there was a reaction between layers,so it needed to be repainted...and here it is...came out very nice!

here are some pics of the plenum connector ported, polished, painted, cleared, cut,&compounded

here are a couple of pics of the intake runners, stock on the left, and enhanced on the right ...note that I groung off all of the outside casting flash,on the enhanced version, and also a full port, polish, paint, cut, and compound!

a couple of side by side views

here a pic of the side view of the runners, than a close up comparison of stock size, versus ported

more close up pics of the porting

a close up pic of stock ,and ported secondary runners

a couple pics of the under side of the runners, stock, and port, and polish comparison

a couple of close up pics of the comparison stock-vs-port and polish

here are some pics,of the throttle body before, and after the port, and polish

here are some pics of the rear of the throttle body, again before the port and polish, and after

here are some close up pics of the throttle body before and after ,the port and polish job

here is a pic of the cleaned, painted, and cleared oil pan(ready for reassembly)
