1972 GMC Sprint 350 Custom

We picked this up as a "father/son" restomod project. It's a 1972 GMC Sprint, based off of the Chevrolet El Camino. 350 V8 automatic, originally Sequoia green with a green vinyl top, 1 of 6,473 produced in 72 (63,620 El Caminos) and 1 of 689 350 customs (50,359 El Caminos) accoding to the Sprint Reference Page and ElCaminos.com. She sat for a while, so there are a few cobwebs to knock off. We're still discussing how far we're going to go, but it will be a restomod car.

The uniquely GMC parts are the grill emblem, fender emblems, tailgate emblem, dash badge, and steering wheel. The stripes will look better with an SS hood.

A bit dirty and cobwebed, but it runs. Micky T valve covers will go, but we'll see if we can save the long tube headers. My goal is to make this 350 put out 350 HP.

Non-original bench, it doesn't work amazingly well but it's there. Buckets from a late 70's Camaro are awaiting install, hopefully it won't be too hard to safely rig them in.
So that's the starting point. We've got a lot of weekend hours ahead, but I'm excited to see what she'll do. We both graduated from Oklahoma State, so she may be orange before it's all said and done.
Progress
Second Place for a 70's car in a local car show!
Exterior
> Sprint Badge on the tailgate - it's not an El Camino!
>Sprint Badges on the fenders...waiting to go on...
Interior
> Bucket seats - the bench is gone, but I put a hole in the floorboard with my knee. The rear window leaked water into the interior, so we'll have to pull the carpet to find out how bad the rust is. The driver's seat is in and solid, so that's the important part.
> Gauges - to keep an eye on stuff.
> New rear view mirror
Drivetrain
> Carb and intake
> Serpentine system - the v belts just weren't cutting it. We got it on eBay from an 80's 350, just need to get the AC charged and it is all working. It was kind of interesting to get the radiator hose around the alternator, but we made it work.
> QA1's and a PolyPlus complete kit from Classic Performance Products. With the Air Shocks out back we'll be able to adjust the ride height all around. This is on the "To Do" list.
Take a gander at the next few pages for pics.
