Greetings Car Domain community, I am JMalek and I own a 1994 Mazda MX-6 LS 2.5 V6 Automatic called Maxi.

Jul. 2008 - I was looking for a coupe and after going on Craigslist I found a 94 Mazda MX-6 with 165,xxx miles on it for $650 in Lodi NJ that needed alot of work and after seeing other Mazdas on Car Domain I was sure I could rebuild this car.

Long story short the payment arrangement between the owners and I didn't work out so I let the car go.

Jan. 2009 - I continued my search for a MX-6 and after looking the whole summer, I stumbled across this car on Craigslist in Garfeild NJ for $900 which had a little over 70,000 miles on it at Ciano Service Center. (Needs Paint)

Feb. 2009 - After some payment installments, I was so eager to take Maxi home that I took a plate off my Infiniti (R.I.P Li-Li) and put it on the Mazda. I had my cousin Rob drive her home.

Here's a pic under the hood. I want to add color to it any ideas?

Here's a pic of the stock radio. I need advice on how to make use of both deck spaces.

Mar. 2009 - After a week or so of driving with Li-Li's plate (on the rear bumper only) I got pulled over and Maxi was inpounded.

While Maxi sat in the pound my custom key from Japan arrived.

Here's a pic of my girl and I outside the pound. She broke a nail on our way there lol.

After a week I was able to get Maxi out of jail (over $700 in paperwork and fees), but then like all cars Maxi started falling apart.

Mar.2009 (The Pipes) - After a night of driving around my girlfriend and I were going home when suddenly we hear a big thud and the car sounded like an army tank. A pipe connected to the muffler had broken off and was hanging to the ground. I had to wait 3 days to get it fixed in the mean time I drove it with the hanging pipe.

Here's my mechanic working on the exhaust.

Here's what the pipe looked like after all that dragging.

Mar.2009 (No Power) - So two days after I came from the mechanic I noticed two warning lights on, the battery light and the 4W ABS light. I read the owners manual and called Mazda. I was told I may have alternator trouble. I went on about my day and continued driving when the radio cut off, minutes later the car did too (AWWW SHHHIIT!). I parked the best I could and waiting for my uncle Weit to give me a jump. He followed me home and had to give me 6 jumps.

The next day in order to take it to the shop I had to drive with a jump starter under the hood...Don't believe me?

My belt had been broken due to a bad idle pulley.

After leaving the mechanic shop, I was sure I would be able to have some time before it would have to be looked at again..WRONG! Two days later while I'm on my way to work I hear a tapping noise coming from the same spot I just had worked on. The tapping got louder than I heard a SNAP and the same warning lights came on again.

I quickly drove it to the mechanic before I lost power. While I'm driving I feel a hard rumble and hear metal fall. When I pulled over I see a metal ring on the ground. The rumbling stops and I drive it to a mechanic. I'm waiting for him to call me and let me know what's the problem now.

Apr.2009 - Turns out I needed my harmonic balancer replaced. When I changed the idle pulley it over powered the balancer causing it to break and snap the belt I just put in.

Apr.2009 - Before a week passes I noticed smoke coming from the hood. I pulled over and as soon as I looked at it the belt popped right in front of my eyes.

I finally came to the root of the problem. Turns out I had a bad A/C compressor. I got one from a junkyard and was good to go. Here's the compressor and it being installed.

Now that all the mandatory fixes are done I decided to clean Maxi up. Here's the dirt that was on my rear window.

The car is now shining like glass but my next focus is the seats and headliner. Here is what I'm up against.

Her paint only looks good in the pouring rain :-(

More stories and Alot of upgrades I need as much advice as I can get. So everyone with a MX-6 PLEASE HELP!

Your first step should be to join MX6.com and research the 2nd gen MX6. Before adding color to your engine bay it's in serious need of a cleaning, cover the distributor and alternator with plastic bags, use Castrol super-clean and a nylon brush then rinse it off. Everything you ad for looks should serve a purpose. New spark plug wires in the color of your choice(8mm+) and plugs (factory). The main focal point on the 2.5l are the intake manifold and valve covers. The valve cover gaskets often leak oil, if you decide to powder coat/paint or polish the intake manifold or valve covers, it's the perfect time to change the gaskets. The best thing to do is go to an pick and pull parts yard and grab the intake manifold and valve covers off a 2.5l mx6/626 (make sure it's the same intake your engine has) and paint/polish or powder coat them. Get a torque wrench and the torque specs and installation procedures, get all new gaskets, take pictures of everything before you take it apart (so you know where it goes when you put it together). Strut tower bars aren't expensive and dress up the engine bay and can stiffen the ride.
