This is my 1997 Grand Prix GT sedan. It's my daily driver, so I don't do a lot to it other than general maintenance and repairs, which it's had plenty of. It has almost 160,000 miles on it. It was owned by a woman who neglected it for eight years before me. When I bought it I replaced a bad rear upper strut mount, both wiper arms and the wiper crank, changed the oil and filter, and fuel filter. Then I had the rear toe arms replaced (they were rusted solid) and had it aligned, wheels balanced and rotated, and trans fluid and filter changed. Also had a bad wheel speed sensor so got a new front hub.

The tranny went bad around 130k miles so in went a new GM certified rebuilt 4T40E. While the engine was out I fixed a bunch of oil leaks and degreased the entire engine. Got a new lower engine mount because the old was split, new oil pan and gasket, and new gaskets for the valve covers, throttle body, and intake manifold. Cleaned the carbon out of the lower intake mani and intake ports on the heads too, and replaced all the valve seals and the rear main crank seal for good measure. Cleaned the fuel injectors and replaced the spark plugs and O2 sensor. Put everything back in and now it runs like a champ! Battery started dying later and it was more than five years old so I got a new one. The A/C went out last summer too so I got a new condensor and compressor and installed those. I also put some mesh grill in front of the condensor to protect it from rocks. The most recent mainenance items were a new water pump in april '08 and the door latch broke so I replaced that in feb '09.

Here is the engine bay. Not much for mods here. I did change the coolant bottle to the newer model to make it easier to check the coolant level and add coolant if necessary. I did a little modding to the inside of the air box and added a K&N filter. The stock cat went also so I replaced it with a magnaflow high flow cat, deleted the rear O2 sensor and the stock U-bend, and replaced the big heavy resonator with a piece of straight pipe. I also did a little bit of tweaking to the computer with my tuner that I used on my Grand Am. I figure maybe 10-15hp over stock tops. Otherwise it's stock.

Stock interior. Only addition is a small plate for a switch in one of the cubby holes, that operates the angel eyes on my foglights. The stock speakers where blown so replaced them with some Pioneers. Fronts are TS-A1302C 5 1/4" speakers, 180watt peak 2 way with seperate tweeter and inline passive crossovers. Rears are TS-A6985 6x9" speakers, 260watt peak 4 way co-axials. They have much crisper sound that the stock speakers and sound great even with the stock head unit. The display on my headunit died, so I also replaced that with the old one from my grand am (since they were the same). The only other electronic mod was the addition of a viper remote start/alarm.

Exterior, I shaved the stock badges and added some reflective silver vinyl badges instead. They show up nice at night. The old stock headlights were badly scratched and foggy, so I bought new factory housings and clear corner lights. They have sylvania silverstar headlight and turn signal bulbs. I replaced the foglights with a set of Optilux angel eye foglights. I tinted the windows 20% on the sides and rear, just because it gets so  dang bright and hot here in Florida. That's it for the outside.

The brakes have been completely over hauled. Basically replaced everything except the calipers. New brembo OEM replacement rotors, Hawk ceramic performance pads, and goodridge braided lines all around. I completely bleed the system with Valvoline synthetic DOT3 brake fluid as well.

The front lower control arms went out on me, and the struts were shot as well, so I re-did most of the suspension. Replaced both the lower control arm bushings. Wire brushed all the front and rear control arms, hit them with some rust convertor primer, and painted them flat black. The front sway bar was cracked so I replaced that with a new OEM bar, and used energy suspension polyurethane bushings in the stock brackets to stiffen it up a little, along with new end links and end link bushings. The rear bar I replaced with a larger one from speedbuilt and the polyurethane bushings that came with it. That stiffened up the rear a bit so it doesn't lean so much in corners now. The stock springs were in good shape so I left those, but I replaced the blown struts with new KYB GR-2's. I also cleaned and re-greased the upper pivot mounts and replaced a few worn spring isolators. I also replaced the front wheel bearings last fall as they started getting very noisy and making bad vibrations on the road. Now it rides much better and is nice and quiet. The old tires were going bald so I replaced them with some stock size Yokohama Avid A4's.

That's about it. I'm hoping nothing else major goes wrong and I can drive it for a few mores years until I'm ready to get something else.

Sweet grand prix looks good, I have a 90 grand prix turbo. Has not changed much over the years it takes some work to change that battery. The fluid box on top of the battery loves to cause problems with the battery over time.
