AZ65MGB’s MG MGB
“AZ 66 MGB”

    • Currently 3.3/5 Stars.

Ahh, new beginnings.  It is time that I take what I have learned from my prior MGB projects and transfer these skills to a new and more complex project.  Or maybe I will be doing a lot of sanding and beer drinking in the garage.

Either way, I have another little MGB to turn into something special.  The last one was a story of a rare barn find this one is a story of a hard life, several owners, coats of paint, some rust issues and a project that couldn't come to fruition.

For me, it was $350 investment into someone elses problem.

Please allow me to introduce "The '66"

Tada!

The car came with a few boxes of parts as well.

DAY 1

I got a tow bar off Ebay (only $65 which included shipping).  I had to get a couple brackets to mount the thing to the car, but with everything together, it towed like a dream.

I got it home, pushed it up into the garage and started to pull everything out of it and take an inventory.

Turns out I have some extra parts as well.  Some stuff off of a 1970's models that I can not use, but most of the stuff was for this particular car.

The car has several layers of paint.  Red was the factory color, then it got a second coat of red, then white, then silver (which turned to gray).

I will blast it someday, but for now, I am sanding as smooth as I can and just primering it for now.

I think I am going to do an old school rat rod style with this one for the time being.

- cut the front springs &

- remove a leaf in the back to lower it 2 inches.

- Primer black with a red off centered stripe

- Black wheels with chrome beauty rings

- loud exhaust.

Here is an example of the stance and the wheels I am going to do.

Actually, I like the white as well.  Maybe I will go with the white and do the black hood.  Hmm.

DAY 2

This car needs tires and so I went to Craigslist to see what might be available on the cheap.  Good news!  185 65 14's.  The same size that is on my other MGB.  A set of 4 with 75% of the tread still on them for $60.  I made a trip to check them out and haggled a price of $50.  Sweet!

Now all we need to do is pull off the other tires and mount these.  If you thought I was on a budget with the other B, this budget is even smaller.  Looks like we are learning to mount tires.

Here is a couple of videos of me removing and replacing a tire on one of the rims.  I did a little research online and this is my first ever attempt.  All turned out well and it only took about 10 minutes.  Check it out. The first one is getting the old tire off... and the second is mounting the new tire.

After the good times, I decided to spend a little time sanding and primering.  Most of one side is done, but in the process I discovered a few areas of interest.  Looks like some rust in the usual areas and some bondo here and there.

Cheers!

Thanks for the comments dude! I thought I was doing EVERYTHING myself until I saw you put that tire on the rim. I laughed my ass off. I really didn't think you could do it. 5*s for proving me wrong. I love the MGBs too. If your interested in joining a group, check out our group "Masterpieces in Progress." A group of all project cars!
