Night-mare: (noun) (mythological) A demon horse said to bring horrific dreams to one who is asleep. See also: Inccubus or Succubus.
My husband bought this 91 Mustang LX 5.0 at an auction of $800.00 with the intention of cleaning it up and reselling it on our lot. He dragged it home on a trailer, having never driven it, and discovered a few days later the transmission was missing 3rd and 4th. Whoopsy. The interior was filthy white and and faded opal grey/titanium. The leather seats were tattered and the leather rotting off of them. I had no idea the sets were the articulated GT seats until last September because the knee brace was immovable on both seats. A thin layer of dirt crusted every surface and was caked into the Pony emblem on the dash. The gauges were dusty and the plastic gauge cover was yellowed and dingy. The torn, white OEM top was a nightmare to put up - it was so shrunken it was a two man rodeo to put it up and latch it. In fact, there were a few times I said screw it and let it rain on it, top down.
The AOD transmission was rebuilt immediately and apparently, my husband had it hopped up, because... DAYAMN. Then I had a chance to detail it and drive it... It never left us after that. I never really cared much for the Fox body 'Stangs, but something about this one spoke to me, it has a soul, and I couldn't let him sell it - and truthfully, he didn't want to.
A year or so later, we decided to put bigger MAC headers and MAC exhaust on it, and the low purr of the 5.0 turned into a menacing rumble. Aluminum underdrive pullies were added, a larger, 3 row raditor installed (by me, by myself), The hoses were fitted with steel braid (also by me) and cold air induction added. All told, $3,000.00 worth of high performance parts were installed (On an $800.00 car. Insane? Yes?) It'll now hit 125 MPH without coming close to top end, and 120+ mph in a convertible gets scary... you know one mistake is all it takes to die a horrible death - we never did find top end. Maybe some day I'll get brave enough... or stupid enough.
Later, we decided to put a black top on - the white OEM was starting to shrink even more to the point it was near impossible to put it up after taking it down. We took it to a few car shows, and even though I'd cleaned it to near spotless condition and put decent seat covers on it, it still didn't get a lot of attention, but it was still my favorite ride.
Update 4-09-09: By using the highly accurate and scientific manner of counting 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi.... my daughter and I went from 0 to 60 in about 4.25 seconds this evening, and that wasn't even dropping the hammer on it. Now I GOTTA get a stop watch on it!
Then we decided to 'go for it' and gut the interior and do a complete color change, inside and out...
