Update 5/15/09
On 5/10/09 I took my Corolla out to the Streets of Willow and it performed excellent. I did have a slight overheating problem but it was 100 degrees out in the middle of the desert. I have installed a rebuilt Weber 32/36 Carburetor, ported intake manifold, BRD racing 6 puck clutch kit, headers, custom flowmaster exhaust, ceramic brake pads and an electric cooling fan. A bigger radiator and more aggresive fuel delivery system are in the works. I would also like to install a Phantom Grip LSD rear end kit but it will suck up budget.
Here are a couplea pictures of my te72 at the track, enjoy.
This is project Red Flag.
I bought this 1981 Toyota Corolla from a guy on Craigslist for 300 bucks. The guy who sold it to me had the car sitting for nearly 9 years and it did not start so I had to tow it home. I took a risk but it paid off because as soon as I got the car home I rebuilt the carb and installed new fuel lines and the fuel pump and it started right up. It ran excellent.
I am only going to use junkyard parts for the restoration and the parts that I cant find at the yards, I will buy new from Autozone, only because it is cheaper than most other stores and they offer warranty. I have already rebuilt the radiator and installed a mechanical oil pressure and water temperature gauge.
My plans are to take this Corolla to the track so I will need to install a bigger carb so I will most likely run a 2 or 4 barrel Holley carb. I will also install a performance clutch and lightweight flywheel.

This is me attempting to bring some life back to the old paint with some cleaner wax.
