That's "The Rat" also known as "GLYKSKEKS"
09/23/2003 There only can be one! on cardomain
This car was called 'The Rat'. It belongs to my brother. He bought it on eBay in 2002 for only app. 170 Euros and drove it on it's own axle from Frankfurt (Main) to our home. That was the first trip with that car and he didn't know whether the car is roadworthy or not. But it's a Beetle and we all know that a Beetle runs and runs and runs.....
The Beetle is hardly deep that only the tires work like a spring. Hard but streetlegal in Germany. The name of the Beetle comes from the overall looking. It had rust on the body. Not little rust spots, no, there were squaremeters of rust - but nothing demaged or rusty holes. the chassis itself was perfect. Not rust and painted silver. The front seats are out of a VW Scirocco. That was the new trend in Germany that times: rats. Optical a desater but technical on the top.
Basicly it's a 1980 Beetle out of the Mexican production but it was 'matured' so the fenders, headlights, tail lights, bumpers and engine hood are from the elderly Bug (built up to 1967). It has the 1200ccm engine with 34HP. Just a Mexican. But there are some details on it, that screams 'Hey, I'm not that old car as it seems! ' and that was one point to get rid of. The plan was to make an old looking Bug out of it, that it won't be easy to gues, what year of built it is.
After the built up, it's named "GLYKSKEKS" (speek Glückskeks - means "fortune cookie") because the rust wasn't expected and we still had the parts bought to weld it. So we had to built it up and make it nice.
Here some pics as we drove it 2 years:
He looks cute and innocent :)
