Prior to my owning the 1959 Catalina, my Dad owned a 1959 Tri-Power Starchief Pontiac and it had a factory installed Tri-Power 389 with three two-barrel carburetors. It had the Tri-Power symbol on each side by the front wheel wells. He had a standing bet (no seat belts in those days) that if he taped a dollar to the dash-board a person could have it if he could reach it when he first took off in the first 2-3 seconds. He kept his dollar.

This was a great car. I owned this exact car, same color (different car) in 1966. By the way, the pontiac had a 389 (not 398, probably a typo) engine with four speed automatic. I wish I still owned it. It was a fast car and my buddy who had a hopped up 1953 Ford Pickup was jealous of the fact he could not take me in a drag race.

nice ride. just picked up a '60 StarChief. little thing i just learned, figured I'd pass it on, that Pontiac made ONE block size. there is no big/small blocks for pontiacs of that era. just figured you'd like to know. good luck!
