Dune Buggies

My hobbies also include wheels & engines. I have been building & off roading dune buggies for 20 years. This is a shot of the first one I ever bought. I still have it but it hasn't been out in many years.

This is the one I built to replace it. It had better weight distribution, was 2 feet shorter & weighed 200 LBS. less than the yellow one.
Too bad my soon to be ex wife gave it away. There is a slight matter of contempt of court for doing it that she faces though.
This one is powered by a 1915 CC Volkswagen engine. It has Mofoco 042 large port heads which are cut .050 raising compression to about 9.5 to 1. Other features include a VZ30 cam with straight cut gears & Scat lightweight lifters. Rockers are 1.1 to 1 on chromoly shafts with swivel foot adjusters. Mahle 94 MM forged pistons & cylinders swing from weight matched & rebushed stock rods. The rods have been deburred & shot peened. This connects to a 69 MM full circle crank that has been 8 doweled & has a 12 lb. lightened flywheel, Kennedy Stage 2 pressure plate with a K.E.P 4 puck disc & a chromoly gland nut. Carbs are dual Weber 44's with a hexbar linkage. Header is a 1 5/8" Tri-Mill. Horsepower estimates are around 125 to 130 HP.
The transmission is a 3-rib bus A-case that feeds the power through race prepped 930 CV joints on DOM tubular 3x3 trailing arms. This photo is at Silver Lake Dunes in Michigan with paddle tires on but my woods tires are 33x15.5 Goodyear V-treads.

This is one of my buggies that I sold about 4 years ago.

Here's one I'm dying to put together but I simply don't have the time. It's a Chenowth chassis from 1984.
Ex gave this one away too. She's in trouble for that too!

Another one of my tattoos that I drew up & had inked.
