Alright so this is my 1990 Bronco II Eddie Bauer Edition. Its got the 2.9 V6 with a 5 speed behind it. Its got 180,000 miles on it, but it still drives like new! My grandfather bought it from the original owner in 1991 with only 20k miles on the clock, and he owned it up until now. He used it to inspect property he owns in Montgomery County NC, and that's what its spent its whole life doing, just getting him around and taking him through the trails in NC. Its never let us down due to a design fault, though it did leave us stranded one day when I was driving it and the fuel line got ripped from the tank by a big tree limb. But anyway, I always loved the thing, and I used to do a lot of the maintenance on it for him, so he decided he'd let me have it once I was old enough to drive!
Its been maintained meticulously, the oil is always changed at the correct intervals, and the number of things he's done to keep this little beast on the road always amazed me. My grandfather has a little diary, which he uses to keep up with EVERYTHING he ever did to this thing. Its totally stock, but every time he puts fuel in it, changes the oil, replaces a part, etc, it gets noted in this book. Its on its 3rd air-con system, but really with the exception of wearing parts like clutches, brake pads, tires, etc, everything else is more or less original.
So anyway, hopefully I'll get a good bit of use out of this thing! I've got another Bronco II, a 1989 XLT which I bought from a friend after the alternator belt snapped and it broke down on him on the way home. I towed it back to his house for him (with my bronco II) and then towed it out to a piece of property I own where i planned to let it sit. Well i decided to go back and replace the belt on it, and 20 minutes later it was running like new.
This picture shows me towing my new Bronco II to my buddies house:
I'm still undecided as to what I should do with my second Bronco II, but I'll either part it out, keep the parts I need for my 90, and then sell the rest and make a few bucks, or maybe make a chop top out of it.
My 90 Eddie B. will be getting a good few things done to it once I move back to North Carolina this summer. Hopefully I'll get some custom tube bumpers on the thing, and then start with a 2in body lift so I can get some bigger tires under it. I'd also like to take the rims from my 89' and powdercoat them black (they're the "bullet" style ones like I already have) which I think would go nice with black bumpers, tire carrier, and roof rack.
Eventually, a 5.0 V8 may find its way under the hood. I'm undecided whether to drive with the 2.9 until it dies (that may never happen in my lifetime judging by some people with over 500k on their original motors!) or just go ahead and replace it with a 5.0. I've already got a 5.0 out of an 87 crown vic in my garage, as well as an 8.8 drum rear, and the 90' Bronco II's already had Dana 35s, so I should be set in that department. I would like to get an 8.8 out of an explorer though, so I could have discs in the back. I'll also probably end up getting a set of stock 5.0 mustang heads for the motor, in order to bump the power up a little bit. I'd be satisfied with a nice docile 250bhp for something small like a Bronco II.
On down the line a little bit further, I'd like to go with a 4in suspension lift, or MAYBE 6in depending on how high I really want the thing.
So anyway, that's the plans for now, I'll see how things go once I get back to the truck! If you have any questions or comments feel free to post them! Its a pretty clean Bronco II for its age, especially when you consider its been used off-road all its life by my grandfather.
