The 2011 Season
2011 NASA Midwest Region TTA Champion
2011 NASA Great Lakes Region TTA Champion
2011 NASA Nationals 3rd place TTA (out of 14 competitors)
2011 TT Most Improved - Midwest Region
2011 TT Perseverance - Great Lakes Region
16 Regional Events
- 10 1st place finishes
- 5 2nd place finishes
- 1 3rd place finish
5 track records in 2011
My last 38 NASA events dating back to 2009:
83 track days in total on the car, all with the stock motor, cams, turbo, bottom-end, etc.
I also branched out and tried several different configurations on the car this year. With the TT points system, you have to pick and choose your modifications. So if you want to add a particular part, you have to change something else back to OEM! So I went to different events with different combinations of HP and Aero bits. While this did affect my winning %, it was valuable setup knowledge for Nationals.
I ran 3 different wings, 2 different FMIC's, 2 different 4th gear ratios and with and w/o a front splitter. I also ran 2 different types/brands of rotors and pads. I wanted to test different sized tires and compounds but I simply did not have the time.
Last but not least, thanks to AMS Performance, AMSOIL, Forgeline, Hoosier, Hawk, Boostin Performance and Buschur Racing.

2010-2011 NASA MW TTA Champion!
Wow - what a year 2010 was for the 929 Evo! We started in our previous NASA TTB config. It works out to 310whp @ 3263lbs - and proves pretty quick and a hell of a force in TTB. We were undefeated in our local region winning all 3 events we ran in TTB including 1 new track record (it's no fun to win alone). We also had 1 win in TTS and 7 win in TTA which helped us to the 2010 NASA MW Regional Championship for TTA. Along the way, we set 3 records in TTA as well.
We also competed in the GRM UTCC Challenge that took place at VIR in July. The car performed flawlessly through 103 ambient temps. We racked on 100 track miles the day of the challenge and over 200 miles through the 3-day weekend as we stayed and competed in NASA Mid-Atlantic TTB both Sat/Sun. We pushed through a solo 2300 mile trek to VIR which included a fastest lap of 2:11.0 - with just 310whp - and claimed my 2004 Nissan Titan tow truck on the return voyage...long story.
Here's some misc track pics - with the car in action! More info below...

Along with the TT/TA competitions, I also instruct for the SCCA in my local St Louis region. So, the car has carried around a lot of passengers as well!
2010 Accomplishments:
15 NASA TT events. Competed in 3 different regions in 3 different classes.
* 11 wins in 3 different classes
* 4 track records
* 1 Regional Championship --> Midwest TTA
Dating back to 2009:
Last 27 NASA events - 23 wins; 11 track records
17 Days on track in 2010. A total of 60 on the car through the end of 2010. Stock motor, cams, turbo, bottom-end, trans, etc...
2009 Accomplishments:
- NASA TTB - 8 1st place finishes & 3 track records!
- Redline Time Attack - 2nd place Street AWD @ Autobahn
POWER: Everyone always wants to know about the hp. It dynoed around 250whp stock. Through various states of mods and tuning it's ranged from 300whp - 370whp. Minus some key bolt-on's the car is largely stock. The engine, turbo, cams, trans, etc are all stock. It's amazing if you open up the intake/exhaust and put it in the hands of a great tuner like AMS Performance what the outcome will be. I highly recommend them for a multitude of upgrades including ECU tuning.
TURN/STOP: I've definitely concentrated more in these areas. I'm now on my 5th suspension setup. I started with it stock, then added springs, then switched to coilovers and for 2008, a customized set of Muellierized JIC's for 2009-10 and for 2011 the car is running AST's. I've tried a number of different brake pads & compounds. I've ran everything from an aggressive street tire, to r-comps to Hoosiers in a few different sizes. I currently run a set of Forgeline ZX3R's, Forgeline GA3R's and Volk Racing CE28's; all in 18".
DRIVETRAIN: One of the single best mods I've ever done is the Shepard Racing 1.5 way Rear Diff. This thing just works. Evo's from the factory are plauged by understeer. With proper suspension setup and alignment you can tune a lot of that out but at the limit it'll always understeer. Enter Shepard Racing and their rear diff - problem fixed. Simple as that!
