JDMMRGTO's 1996 Mitsubishi GTO

Why do i call my car The Katana? Becuz it is one hell of a weapon! A weapon that the Samurai took pride in. This car is fierce, intimidating and strikes the hearts of many where ever it goes, it truly is a pure work of art by the japanese, much like the sword itself.

I'm that obsessed with this car that you would think that i have an obsessive compulsive disorder. Well, maybe i do lol but i dun care, this car just rocks my world! The way it eats up domestics and how it sticks to the road like as if it were on rails. It's radical in every sense!

Some pics of when i first got her (13/09/08):

Bone stock!

So far this is what i have done:

21/01/09 - Had Ozzytyres fit a set of new Zenetti Five 18x8.5 Wheels, $1440 w/o tyres (21/01/09)

23/01/09 - Caught up with the good fellas down at D & T Performance and had them make and fit a custom stainless 3 inch turbo-back exhaust system. The job is only half done, but they will finish the rest of it next wednesday with twin unique tips on the back of it (these ones look shit hot! I could have gone with 2 big cannons out the back but i would have lost the sleekness of the car.) So yer can't wait for that, also will have a K&N Cone filter installed. So far its cost me $3080.

Wait, this isn't Tropic Thunder! This is a complete sound system for my ride.. hmm that cant be right lol. There goes my fortnights pay :P

*Option Audio 4 Channel 600W RMS Amp $339

*4 Gauge Wiring Kit $79

*Polkaudio M6501 6.5" 250 Watt 2 Way splits $439

*MTX 12"x 2 200W RMS (400RMS) Subwoofers with Enclosure $300

*Pioneer DEH-P6050UB Ipod/Usb 2.0, 4x Pre-outs, 24bit Head unit $339

*The satisfaction on my face having bought this system - priceless

Now to get it installed, should have some spare time on Friday to do it. I've got my mate coming to help me as well. Should be fun :)

29/01/09 - Finally i get my car back from D&T Performance with my new 3" exhaust (it was only 2 days but it seemed like a lifetime) and errrr well... i'll let the photos do the talking!

Thought id throw in a pic of the stock engine bay, not for long tho :)

JDMMRGTO's 1996 Mitsubishi GTO

I just could not stop smiling at the awesome job that D&T Performance did. The tips match the car perfectly, the sound, ohhh man the V8 i passed on the stuart highway with the big cannon out the back? could not compare! It is freaking loud! Not only that, ii can feel the difference to the low - mid range power, I'm not sure of the HP increase, but i would imagine it'd be a bit over the 300HP mark (I'll get her dynoed one day) haha, words can't describe how happy i am.

I'll record a sound of her tomorrow, its really menacing :)

03/02/09 - Strut brace and new silver diamond star badge arrived in the mail today, won't fit the strut brace until the bov and kn filter has been installed (waiting for D&T to call me when the order arrives).

07/02/09 - The car is in the workshop at the moment, the front strut has been fitted, as well as the kn filter and the bov, but after some chit chat with ol mate down at D&T i've decided to have all the piping customed. $800 well spent if you ask me, its gonna look mickey mouse under the hood. I'll keep yas posted once its finished.

I just got the car back from D&T, the bov has been fitted, the kn filter installed, and the custom piping is done. I'll upload a pic of the bay in a bit. I'm stoked!

Before                                                                             After

The photo quality was a bit poor cuz my lens wouldn't stop foggin. But apart from that the engine bay looks a shit tin better than before. $1500 worth of blood and sweat under this bonnet, D&T, you guys are the bomb!

Next monday im taking her in again to get dynoed and tuned, they said ill be able to get another 2 psi out of the lil 9b turbos so im gonna go with that, i'll keep yas posted!

11/5/09 - Powercruise 18 Darwin Hidden Valley raceway - Show and Shine
Missed out on taking the gto out on the track cuz i didnt have the $$$ so i put it in the show and shine instead, got plenty of Ooos and Ahhhs ^^

This Skyline is one hell of a drift car, and the driver, well, hes one hell of a drifter

27/5/09 - Good news! Good news, the 575 c/f hood has arrived! After 2 and a half freaking months of hair pulling and finger nail chewin pandemonium it finally got here. But theres a problem, the fibreglass vents under the hood and the intercooler piping are stopping the hood from shutting properly ( theres about a 100mm clearance between the hook and the lock :/), which is a pain in the arse cuz now i have to fork out another $300 and wait for another week to get the hood chopped up and refibreglassed. I must admit though, the hood looks unreal with the car even if it has set me back a total of $1900... -_-* sometimes i wish i lived in America.

Some other things ive done:

- Replaced the old orange indicator lights with nice white ones off ebay

- Side windows + rear windows tinted

- sound system has been installed

Heres some pics:

Jobs done, now for the after pics:

The Plan:

- 5k oil change coming up, change oil + filter

- next would be the 100k (60k mi) service

- If alls good, so begins project 500AWHP, twin 16g evo turbos at 19psi + supporting mods is the target

- Install Option Audio GPS rear-vision mirror + reverse camera

- Install central locking kit and alarm kit

- repair nicks in the paint and dings

- My dream is to have the katana resprayed with pearlescent black/blue paint, but this could be a long way off yet

- Have the front bumper replaced with this lil beauty:
