This is going to be the story of my special XR2 build.

I am starting off with a bog standard mk2 1.1 fiesta and am going to turn it into a mental street racing XR2, this is going to be done in various stages which i will take you through as i do them.

Let the story commence...

Saturday 22nd March 2003

The vehicle itself, an ordinary shopping cart! As you can see i have started to strip the car of parts that will no longer be needed, or will be replaced with XR2 items.

What we done today...

We just dropped the engine out the bottom of the bay, with the suspension and brakes intact, this way it makes it easier to change everything over.

The 1.1 engine being taken out

The XR2 engine being put in place

The servos had to be changed over, as the 1.1 item was too low.
You can see the angle that the original one used to sit at, the new one sits pointing upright (XR2 item put in place, 1.1 item held above in the angle it used to sit at.)

The new wheels that will be put on are mk3 items.

The XR2 engine has been put in place, but has not been bolted in yet.

The engine is now running!!

We got it all bolted in position and re-did all the wiring, converting bits where we had to. Cautiously i got into the car and turned the key, to our amazement it actually started first time. At the moment the only things stopping it from driving are the accelerator cable need connecting and the exhaust needs to be put on.

The new wheels have also been put on to see what they look like, although the rear suspension and brakes still have to be changed

The new rear light clusters have also been trial fitted, they will have to be removed when the car is resprayed, but i just couldn't resist seeing what they look like on the car.

The tailgate and the bonnet are also begining to be repaired and modified.

After getting the car started we had to run the coolant through the system.

The exhaust was also put on

Nearly everything in place, and we put one seat in, a subframe has to be adapted for the other one.

I also began to rub down the bodywork

Friday 28th March 2003

Unfortually no work was done today as the workshop was having its floor painted. But fear not work will continue on Monday

The only other thing i forgot to add about yesterday, was we decided not to change over the rear suspension and brakes and were only going to add the anti roll bar that comes with the XR2, but when were bleeding the brakes we found the rear master cylinder in one of the drums has completeley snapped. So we have now decided to change the whole rear suspension and brake unit from the XR2 over, like we first intended. This will hopefully be done on monday, then it will be time to get on with the bodywork!
